When I first started studying psychology, cognitive dissonance was one of the phenomena that intrigued me the most. Now, many (many) years later, I coordinated Erasmus School of Social and Behavioural Sciences (ESSB)'s contribution to a multilab replication of the induced-compliance paradigm, the dominant method for investigating cognitive dissonance theory. Let us say the results yielded a lot of ... dissonance. Read about our findings in Advances in Methods and Practices in Psychological Science: https://lnkd.in/dMUkcY5n

EVOLUTIONARY PSYCHOLOGIST DACHER KELTNER, A PROFESSOR OF PSYCHOLOGY AT THE UNIVERSITY OF CALIFORNIA, BERKELEY, AND LEADER OF THE GREATER GOOD SCIENCE CENTER, proposes that we possess innate mechanisms that prioritize the well-being of others over our own. We also have the remarkable ability to transform others’ gains into our own—a simple yet profound principle: “TO HAVE, GIVE.” Fascinatingly, Keltner’s research reveals that when we experience compassion and awe, the Vagus nerve bundle ignites—indicating that we are intrinsically wired to be kind. #evolutionarypsychology #wellbeingprioritization #tohavegive #compassioninaction #innatemechanisms #transformativekindness #vagusnerveignites #wiredtobekind #wellbeingscience #aweinspired #kind #compassion #hopeinaction

A short story: Psychology is a science? Psychology is not a true science? How can psychology become a scientific discipline? More RCTs (Randomized Controlled Trials) are required? Experimental approach should be followed in psychological research? I was thinking all this two days ago. Then, RCI released a notification announcing the commencement of a program called "B.Sc. in Clinical Psychology". NOW ALL TENSION IS OVER. 😁 😂 😃 #RCI #Psychology #Student #BA #BSC #Sarcasm

We all want to focus on the things we deem important, but that is not such an easy task nowadays. With constant talk of the social media driven ‘attention-economy’, shortening attention spans, and continuous distracting stimuli from our devices; it is not strange that we have great difficulties staying focused. But how do attention and concentration actually work? Is it even possible to focus on several things at the same time? And: What are proven ways to stay focused in these times of great distraction? During Attention, Please! Dutch attention-expert dr. Stefan van der Stigchel will tell you all you need to know about attention and concentration. He will explain the inner workings of focus, combat myths on the topic, and teach us strategies to remain focused on the tasks we deem worthwhile and important. Pay attention, and you will never have to worry about not paying attention ever again! Stefan van der Stigchel is Professor of Cognitive Psychology at the Department of Experimental Psychology at Universiteit Utrecht and principal researcher of the research group AttentionLab. He has extensively researched the topic of attention and concentration and wrote the books How Attention Works (2019), Concentration (2020), and Grip Op Je Aandacht (2020). Lecture: Attention, Please! Monday 18 March, 19:30 - 21:00 Erasmus Paviljoen Entrance: Free, reservations recommended
