Normalized Difference Built-Up Index (NDBI) analysis for urbanization involves the use of satellite imagery that includes two main bands: near-infrared (NIR) and red (Red). Using the NDBI formula, we can obtain an index that provides information about the development of urban areas through the spectral difference between built-up and non-built-up surfaces. I visited the massive Center Point of Indonesia development on my trip to Makassar in May this year. This land reclamation project includes an island shaped like a garuda, though you only appreciate this fact when looking at a map. Having a look at the map, I could already see problems with the road layouts and land use.
