The EUDR has come to the enaction, requiring companies to verify their products are not linked to deforestation to pass the EU market. Tune in to our on-demand webinar to deep dive about the EUDR!
The #EUDR is reshaping the landscape in the battle against #deforestation, that records a staggering loss of 122.29 million hectares (Mha) between 2010 and 2015 (Source: IDH The Sustainable Trade Initiative, 2020). As stated by our CEO, Manfred Borer, “We see the EUDR as more than just a regulation; it's a mission, a vital component of the #EuropeanGreenDeal, driving #climateneutrality by 2050. By adhering to the regulation, businesses contribute to the global fight against deforestation, a significant factor in #climatechange and biodiversity loss. With the deadline approaching in less than 11 months, we reaffirm our commitment to assisting producers and businesses in achieving compliance. We stand ready to provide expertise, technology and services to ensure regulatory adherence while concurrently fostering a sustainable future. Despite extensive discussions surrounding the European Union’s new regulation on deforestation-free products (the EUDR), certain aspects remain unclear to stakeholders: 🔍 Large and medium-sized companies must adhere to the EUDR by December 30, 2024. ❌ Non-compliance with the regulation may lead to severe consequences for operators and traders, including fines, market restrictions, or even exclusion from public procurement opportunities. 🌱 While challenges persist for smallholders, some view the regulation as a valuable opportunity to secure fairer income for their products. 📋 Businesses need to have a #DueDiligence report, containing information about geolocation information, evidence demonstrating that products do not originate from land deforested after December 31, 2020, and proof of legal production and trade according to the country's regulations. Amidst the uncertainties surrounding this new law, one thing remains certain: at Koltiva, we have developed solutions and programs to combat deforestation, aiding businesses in achieving EUDR compliance. Watch our recent webinar on how our comprehensive solutions and technologies can assist traders and companies in complying with this regulation: EUDR Mastery: The Countdown to EUDR Compliance with a Thorough Examination of Due Diligence Requirements & Implementation, led by our Head of Sectors, Meg Phillips and moderated by Daniel Agus Prasetyo, our Head of PR and Corporate Communication. 🌍 🌳 As I’ve followed the public debate on the EU’s Regulation on Deforestation-free Products (EUDR) over the past two years, one thing has stood out to me: the absence of the private sector, the main target of the regulation. Far too often, responsibilities are shifted onto the public sector and the EU Commission, when it’s big firms that should be taking charge. In my latest commentary with CEPS (Centre for European Policy Studies), I share my thoughts on why businesses need to step up if the #EUDR is to succeed. 💡 Read it here: https://lnkd.in/edbEAQPP
Why it’s businesses (and not the European Commission) that need to ensure sustainable supply chains

Even environmental groups and farmers in France are uniting to ensure environmental protections and a just transition to green agriculture. The shift towards a more sustainable practices is gaining momentum, and the associated risks and opportunities are reaching more widely into the domain of investors and stakeholders. The European Union's Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive (CSRD) is driving this, emphasising the need for companies to disclose and manage external risks transparently. The upcoming CSRD will elevate the importance of measuring and managing high-priority critical impacts, with a focus on understanding their financial implications. This directive is set to impact over 75% of companies in the European Economic Area, as well as non-EU organizations trading within the EU. With its scheduled rollout in 2026, early preparation is key for businesses to thrive in this changing disclosure landscape – and the opportunity it presents puts its burden in the shade. So now is the time to: 1. Structure double-materiality assessments. 2. Update priorities and plans for sustainability. 3. Enhance data management practices. 4. Assess the financial implications of sustainability efforts. 5. Begin crafting compliant disclosures. It’s more than an opportunity to comply. It’s an opportunity to progress. #Sustainability #progress #CorporateResponsibility #CSRD #Doublemateriality https://lnkd.in/efGAj3hi
