Why Intellectual Property is Crucial to the Olympic Games Intellectual property (IP) might not be the first thing that comes to mind when you think about the Olympics, but it plays a pivotal role in making the Games a global success. Here’s why: Brand Protection: The Olympic rings and other symbols are more than just logos; they represent excellence, unity, and tradition. IP laws ensure these symbols are protected from unauthorised use, preserving their integrity. Revenue Generation: Licensing and sponsorships are major revenue streams for the International Olympic Committee (IOC). Strong IP rights attract sponsors who want exclusive associations with the Olympic brand, funding the staging of the Games and supporting athletes. Combatting Counterfeits: IP enforcement helps prevent counterfeit merchandise from flooding the market. Genuine products ensure quality and safety for consumers while supporting official partners and licensees. Encouraging Innovation: From technological advancements in broadcasting to new sports equipment, IP protection encourages innovation by ensuring creators can benefit from their inventions. Global Reach: Effective IP management allows the Olympic brand to extend its reach globally, creating a consistent and recognisable identity that inspires millions. in the next few days as you watch the Olympics, remember the unseen guardian – intellectual property – that helps make it all possible. #intellectualproperty #anticounterfeiting #licensing #intangiblevalue

Great news for Canada's Intellectual Property scene! The 2024 International IP Index unveils positive strides, with Canada's overall score climbing from 75.72% to 76.22%, signaling progress in key indicators. Presently, numerous EU member states, along with the UK, India, Singapore, #Canada, and other Index economies, have implemented measures enabling #rightsholders to effectively address online copyright #infringement. 👉 In a groundbreaking move, the federal court issued a dynamic injunction order in Rogers Media Inc. v. John Doe 1, swiftly disabling access to infringing content like illegal NHL live streams as identified by vigilant rightsholders. Building on this success, rightsholders secured more #injunctions against #copyright-infringing content providers. Notable cases include actions against FIFA World Cup and major league baseball game streams, showcasing Canada's commitment to enforcing copyright online. 📈 These examples show that rightsholders finally have an effective way of enforcing their copyright online in Canada. A round of applause for the legal strides in fortifying intellectual property rights! #Eliteyez #intellectualproperty #businessbranding

Black Myth is indeed a milestone in China's video game industry, In the past, challenges like piracy and the government's negative stance on video games (as evidenced by the game console ban from 2000 to 2014) have hindered the development of the single-player game market in China. However, the success of Black Myth goes beyond its commercial achievements; it also pointed to significant improvements in IP protection in China, giving developers the confidence to create games without the fear of piracy. With the government's shifting attitude towards video games, we can expect to see more talented Chinese studios bringing their games to global players in the near future.
🎮 China’s government is signaling a complete 180 in its attitude towards video games, suggesting a positive shift towards greater support for the industry. 📊 🐒 Black Myth: Wukong (“Black Myth”), the first AAA game in the history of China’s game industry, became available online as of this morning, 10:00am, on August 20 (Beijing time). Yesterday, Xinhua News Agency released a 30-minute interview with Feng Ji, the producer of Black Myth at Game Science (a Shenzhen based game company) – another first for China’s game industry, since the government-backed media has never promoted a video game in China before. Significantly, nearly three years ago, on August 31, 2021, the newspaper affiliated Xinhua News Agency released an article calling video games “spiritual opium,” after which game license approvals in China were suspended for the second time for around 8 months. 📺 📈 Black Myth’s debut follows a steady flow of foreign game license approvals. 🏆 📅 On August 2, the NPPA approved 15 foreign game titles, including multiple well-known franchises such as Rainbow Six, Marvel Rivals, and Final Fantasy XIV: Crystal World, bringing the total number of foreign game license approvals this year to 76 (with 32 approvals in February, 14 approvals in April, 15 approvals in June, and 15 approvals in August). 🕹️ Since the NPPA is issuing license approvals in batches of about 15 titles every two months, we anticipate that the total number of foreign game approvals for 2024 will exceed the total number of game license approvals for both 2022 (with 44 games approved) and 2023 (with 98 games approved). 🌟 So far in 2024, the NPPA has approved 733 domestic games. In other words, including the 76 foreign games, the NPPA has approved a total of 809 games this year alone. 🎉 The growing number of game license approvals highlights expanding opportunities for international titles in the Chinese market. 📄 Following this month’s batch of foreign game approvals, the State Council released a policy document titled “Opinions on Promoting High Quality Development of Service Consumption,” marking the first time online games have been specifically highlighted in a state-level policy. In the policy, the State Council acknowledges online games as a key sector and supports the growth of e-sports, underscoring the government’s growing recognition of online games and e-sports as vital components of China’s digital economy. 🎖️ #ChinaGame #BlackMyth #GameApprovals #GameRevolution #Esports
