Safety Professional / Authorized OSHA Outreach Trainer,Entry Level Driver Trainer (ELDT) and Part 46/48 MSHA Blue Card Instructor
MSHA MINING MONDAY - always looking to create more up to date and informative/useful material as it relates to the audience at hand. Not every location or requirements for the class are the same. I try and adjust each training class as it relates to the task being performed for my group. Obviously the required topics must be covered, but I can’t wait until we get some new updated material from this generation. That being said, I am still creating updated material and looking for new mine locations willing to partner with me for this up to date training and even new required topics now mandatory for the safety training plan. #mshatraining #annualrefresher #newminer

Training of mining equipment operators is not only one man show. It is an open discussion about experiences and background of ourselves. That way it is easier to be open and tell what we have seen and what could have been happened in worst case scenario, but also what could have been improved. I have been working in that environment for more than twelve years so finding the common language is not an issue. Ofcourse inductor has certain guide lines about how to operate safely, productively and using the equipment the most effective way. It is also a learning process both ways and all involved beging to evaluate their own way of operating. Thank you for co-operation Antti Niskanen and Sami Laitila . We had these practical trainings during 2023 with more than 100 operators for both mining excavator and mining dump trucks. I told them about effective, safe and productive usage of their equipment. Nowadays operators are more willing to know how does the machine actually work and by understanding some basic technical operation it is much easier for them to understand why is it so important to operate as instructed. Like using auto-retarder mode of a dump truck for example. Because using the feature has certain effects to production, maintenance costs and travel road maintenance. Best Safety Practices in Mining: A Pillar of Operational Excellence 🔧 In the mining industry, safety should be viewed not just as a requirement but as the fundamental foundation of any successful operation. In a sector where risks are high and the environment is challenging, adopting best safety practices is crucial to protecting lives and ensuring efficient, sustainable operations. Here are the key practices to ensure a safe working environment: Structured Procedures and Clear Protocols: Every task should follow well-defined procedures, from drilling to extraction. This ensures that each team member understands their responsibilities and actions, minimizing the margin for error and enhancing overall safety. Proper Use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE): Investing in high-quality PPE and ensuring its correct use are essential steps. Helmets, goggles, gloves, and respirators are not just accessories; they are a vital line of defense against daily hazards faced in mining. Preventive Maintenance and Regular Inspections: Equipment integrity is crucial to prevent failures that could lead to severe accidents. Implementing a robust maintenance program and conducting regular inspections ensures that equipment operates safely and efficiently. Ongoing Training and Education: Safety is an endless journey. Providing regular training and updates to the entire team ensures that everyone is well-informed about the latest procedures and best safety practices. Promoting a Safety Culture: Integrating safety into daily operations creates a safer and more responsible work environment. Encouraging open communication about risks and promoting shared responsibility reinforces the commitment to safety. Let’s work together to build a safer and more productive mining sector! #Safety #BestPractices #SafetyCulture #Innovation #OpalSafety #Consulting

Meet Up With Ir Dwi Handoyo Blasting & Enviro Expert Specialist for Mining in Indonesia. The blasting process in the mining industry typically involves several steps: 1. **Surveying and Planning:** Before blasting, engineers survey the area to determine the best locations for explosives placement. This involves assessing geological conditions, ore quality, and safety considerations. 2. **Drilling Holes:** Holes are drilled into the rock face according to the blast plan. These holes are typically filled with explosives. 3. **Loading Explosives:** Explosives, usually in the form of powder or sticks, are inserted into the drilled holes. The amount and type of explosive used depend on factors such as rock type, desired fragmentation, and safety considerations. 4. **Initiating the Blast:** Once all explosives are loaded, a controlled detonation is initiated. This can be done electronically or manually, depending on the specific blasting setup. 5. **Monitoring and Safety:** After the blast, engineers and safety personnel monitor the area for any potential hazards, such as unstable rock formations or gas buildup. Safety protocols are followed to ensure the well-being of workers and the surrounding environment. 6. **Post-Blast Assessment:** Engineers assess the results of the blast, including fragmentation size, rock displacement, and any unintended consequences. This information helps refine future blasting plans and optimize mining operations.
