As we progress in our efforts towards #BuildingCapacities_for_AspirationalToilet_and_InclusiveSanitation, here is a quick recap of what happened on the Day 2 of our training and capacity building workshop: 👉 We commenced our day by reflecting on our experience of auditing public toilets in Dehradun. Alongside our colleague from Indian Institute for Human Settlements, we discussed noteworthy work done in Tamil Nadu to mainstream inclusion in the entire sanitation value chain. We also reviewed case studies from Delhi and Mumbai on creating accessible toilets for vulnerable communities. These activities encouraged participants to rethink about public sanitation services more inclusively, aiming to meet the diverse needs of all individuals, especially the vulnerable communities. The day culminated with participants developing a practical roadmap for advancing inclusive sanitation in Uttarakhand, focusing on- Policy & Advocacy, Design & Participatory Planning, and Skills & Capacity Building. So what insights have we gained? While the list is long, here is our top three: - To truly meet the aspirations of communities, it's crucial to create 'Aspirational public-toilets' that are not only accessible but also affordable for everyone. Additionally, we also need to focus on key factors like water supply, safety, dignity, livelihood, operation, maintenance, sustainability, and community engagement. - It is time that we revamp city public toilets by enhancing user experience and exploring their potential for generating revenue by utilising existing sanitation infrastructure for multi-purpose usage. - There is also an imperative to establish a mechanism that enables seamless exchange of information and data, while fostering collaboration, to ensure the efficient progress of city development efforts which includes public sanitation facilities. Year 2024 marks the theme “My Health, My Right”, highlights access to quality healthcare, education and information as fundamental human rights on the occasion of World Health Day. The extent of poverty, impoverishment and indebtedness due to high out-of-pocket expenditure (OOPE) is on the rise. In the backdrop of all this, accessing quality healthcare indeed remains a challenge, especially for the disadvantaged communities in rural and tribal areas. Deepak Foundation through its Public Health and Nutrition & Clinical Services like Mobile Health Units, Help Desk at SSG Hospital and other initiatives has been reaching out to such vulnerable groups in far flung and difficult areas across Jharkhand, Maharashtra and Gujarat, Telangana & Madhya Pradesh. Deepak Foundation’s goal is to achieve universal health coverage by ensuring access to basic primary healthcare & medical services for the underserved population in remote areas. #MyHealthMyRight #AccessToHealthcare #QualityHealthcareForAll #EndHealthInequality #UniversalHealthCoverage #CommunityHealthcare #RuralHealthInitiatives #HealthEquityNow #PublicHealthOutreach #EmpowerHealthcareAccess

There are some key takeaways from the discussions that happened on #ESG at the National Conference on #responsiblebusiness conduct. Globally, #businesses are now mandated to develop #energytransition action plans. There are three significant #shifts associated with this transition, that we need to be warned of. Firstly, there is concern that cost burden of #energytransition may be shifted from entities in the #GlobalNorth to suppliers in the #GlobalSouth, who, in turn, may transfer the burden to their #valuechain partners. In response, #MSMEs are likely to rely on #governmentschemes , subsidies, or loans to implement #climatechangesolutions practices, thereby incurring additional costs. The second shift is associated with the binding nature of global climate targets, which are now linked to trade and subject to rigorous accountability mechanisms. This looks positive but this may cause diverting funds that might have otherwise been allocated for workers and communities. In essence, there is a risk that investment in E will rise at the expense of S. The third shift involves the growing industry of #ESGconsultancy. With emerging need for advisory services from ESG consultants, there would be redirecting funds that could have otherwise gone to workers and communities. Many companies, especially #big4 types and their value chain partners, may perceive the rise of #ESGconsultancy as an opportinity to invest. Large industries allocate funds for ESG from one area, only to receive those funds through other channels. A lot of investment on ESGwould just be #profits exchanging hands among few top businesses. What is therefore important is to facilitate and build the evolving landscape of business responsibility and sustainability reporting in India, anchored by #sebi and advised by #iica by ensuring that most information about business responsibility is in public domain. More importantly, it is important that citizens, investors, consumers, employees and academics understand #BRSR and know how to read it and analyse it. We are organising series of workshops on BRSR for diverse constituencies to ensure #justtransition. Please write to us if anyone is keen to jointly host such initiatives. Chloé Bailey Dheeraj - Jhumki Dutta Tom Thomas Manishankar Prasad
With the aim of spreading more awareness about BRSR & its utility, #PiC has organised #workshops across 6 states with more than 145 people representing #csos and #workers. 2 more workshops are planned in #jaipur and #bhopal. For more info reach out to us at ekta@picindia.org or jhumki@picindia.org.
