𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗛𝗥 𝗣𝗮𝗿𝗮𝗱𝗼𝘅 𝗮𝗿𝗼𝘂𝗻𝗱 𝗡𝗼𝘁𝗶𝗰𝗲 𝗣𝗲𝗿𝗶𝗼𝗱 Whoever said breakups are tough clearly never tried switching jobs! I’ve personally been a victim of this more times than I’d like to admit. 🕒 Optimal Length for Tech Tests During Hiring 🕒 Deciding the duration of a take-home technical test can significantly impact both the candidate's experience and the efficacy of the assessment. I have seen some candidates spend well over 24-48 hours working on take-home tests! Here are a few tips to find the right balance and attract top talent to your company: ✔️ Ideal Duration: Aim for 1-3 hours. This allows candidates to adequately demonstrate their skills without imposing too heavily on their time. ✔️ Focus on Quality: Opt for a few well-designed problems that reflect real-world scenarios, rather than numerous less meaningful tasks reminiscent of university exams. ✔️ Respect Candidate Time: Lengthy tests can deter exceptional talent, especially those juggling current employment and personal responsibilities. ✔️ Initial Engagement: Interview the candidate first even if it is just a brief screening call before the test. Recruitment is a two-way street, and it’s crucial that candidates feel engaged and informed about the company and the journey ahead. This can save everyone time in the longrun! A well-calibrated tech test not only respects candidates' time but also enhances your company’s reputation as a considerate and professional employer. #TechRecruiting #HiringProcess #TechTest #TechJobs #CandidateExperience

99% of people suck at getting hired. I've reviewed thousands of candidates and have hired dozens of A players. Here's how the best candidates differentiate themselves immediately.. 1) Differentiate your resume 2) Create a shortcut 3) Over-deliver and make an impression 4) Get people to vouch for you 5) Give a shit more than anyone else Full context + real examples from employees we've hired at beehiiv outlined in the post below 👇🏽

January 9th, 2024 marked a significant turning point for many of my colleagues. We were part of a fantastic company with a strong emphasis on family values, remote work flexibility, excellent benefits, fair pay, and, most importantly, a supportive community. We had everything job seekers dream of, and most of us cherished it. However, layoffs are an unfortunate reality, especially in industries like oil and gas. We accepted this aspect of our profession. But this isn't a tale of self-pity or seeking reassurance. Some will continue in the oil and gas sector, others will pursue entirely new career paths, and some of us will forge ahead into uncharted territories. We'll be fine; resilience is our forte. Instead, let's talk about the job application process and its redundancies. Despite technological advancements, we still encounter inconsistencies. Professionals advise removing addresses from resumes, yet applications often request this information. Does it truly matter where someone lives? Should it affect their employability? It shouldn’t matter, maybe someone had to move back in with their parents at 25 with 2 kids because they were laid off. If you are judging someone based on their address, STOP, you don’t know their back story. We mustn't judge based on what we think we know but only on the facts. Moreover, the autofill feature in application forms has improved, thanks to companies investing in updated systems. However, not all have made this leap, potentially missing out on great candidates. Are our Applicant Tracking Systems (ATS) truly aligned with our needs? Who sets these criteria, and are we overlooking valuable candidates at the bottom of the pile? When searching for new talent, let's consider what truly matters to both the company and the individual being hired. Are we relying too heavily on automated processes, or should we take the time to personally engage with overlooked applicants? They might surprise us, or at the very least, they'll gain valuable insights from the interaction. To the recruiters I've engaged with recently, thank you. Each conversation has been a learning experience, helping me refine my understanding of what matters on my resume. While opinions may differ, the knowledge gained from these discussions is invaluable.

As you are going through weekend, here’s a tidbit to keep in mind on your job search… As someone who has looked through thousands of resumes in different recruitment platforms, it matters when in that hiring manager’s search journey that you submit an application - do it as early as you can. Friends who have hired have told me similar experiences. As a hiring manager, you start off strong after you first post a job description - the commitment after that tends to taper off. So when a post goes up - don’t bookmark it to fill it out later. Fill it out asap. Quickdraw! Is this true for others hiring managers out there? #jobhunt2024
