In response to many questions I get around how you trade sports I have dug out an old example of trading UK greyhound prices. There are around 100 greyhound races per day that can be traded and many of these you can do so with minimal risk if you still have a traditional bookmaker that will lay you a bet. The arbing method in this video is where you can back with a bookie at a higher price than you can lay off on the betting exchanges. I did record this example with a smart phone one handed whilst trading with the other so possibly didn't get the best result possible and may be difficult to follow at full speed! Often I will be able to lay off the full amount first before placing the back bet with the bookmaker but on this occasion I was confident there was enough liquidity available to at least scratch the trade for no loss so I just drip fed in my lay bets. The net position at the start of the race was £100 win bet with the bookmaker at 6/4 (2.5 digital odds) and a lay bet for £100 that the dog won't win at around 5/4 (2.25 digital odds) using a betting exchange. So a profit of £25 risk free if it wins. You can hedge to win whatever the result but I Iike to look for full profits on a selection the market is favouring. Unfortunately this one didn't win but this is not a problem as you just keep repeating the process. Note that you cannot arb every race so sometimes you have to sit around. This "behaviour" will lead to the bookmaker not wanting to take your bets anymore so always have another bookmaker lined up! With sports trading we keep looking for different edges as nothing lasts forever!
