As a facilitator, your role is 𝘷𝘦𝘳𝘺 different from that of a teacher or educator. How so? Instead of providing information or giving your opinion, you’ll focus on asking lots of questions that help group members learn and deepen understanding by sharing their: 👉reflections 👉feelings 👉and experiences. We are not born good at this art, especially when it comes to addressing issues of equity, diversity, and inclusion. Train the Trainer: Continuing Education is Key. Ableism is always there. Scratch away the surface and it's there. Ingrained in our language. Behaviours, inaccessible barriers, bias, attitudes, barriers, behaviours, stereotypes, discrimination, exclusion. We all contribute to it. Whether intentionally or unintentionally. Whether learnt or self-taught, we all will contribute to ableism. Only we aren't educated about ableism. We pick up learnt behaviours. We hear people use certain language and we then too use that language. We do what has always been done. Only what's always been done is to ignore ableism, overlooking and dismissing it. We don't get taught in school. We don't get training at work. People just don't know, and so the cycle continues. A cycle of oppression. A cycle that disables 1.7 billion people. Isn't it time we started unlearning? If you would like to discuss how Unlearning Ableism can support your organisation with our speaking, training, policy review, anti-ableist auditing or consulting, then please get in touch. info@unlearningAbleism.com Let's accelerate your organisation's unlearning! Nice, short article from #edu genius Bryan Goodwin for ASCD about the impact that Alternative Certified and Uncertified teachers is having on #schools in #texas (where up to 40/50% of teachers are not fully-certified). What these teachers really need: ✅ Help with student motivation and behavior ✅ Lesson Planning guidance ✅ “delete a lot of the fluff and make things simple” by focusing on basic teaching practices and step-by-step guidance ✅ Supportive mentoring Funny thing--- Sibme literally does all of these things 👆 All for a fraction of the cost of many traditional supports. https://lnkd.in/gkzUhKvi

Developing essential skills like self-awareness, relationship building, and responsible decision-making is crucial for students' success both in and out of the classroom. Schools can implement structured curricula that focus on these areas and integrate interactive activities like role-playing and discussions. These hands-on activities provide a practical context for students to practice their new skills, whether it's learning how to resolve conflicts peacefully or improving communication. By fostering these skills, we're building a stronger, more connected school community! 💡 #SocialEmotionalLearning #StudentSuccess #EducationMatters #InteractiveLearning #PositiveSchoolClimate

In my role as a facilitator, I've had the privilege of engaging with participants who share their diverse learning experiences, especially when they learn I used to teach HS. Some have shared that walking into a “classroom” recalls negative memories of school: bullying, the frustration of not grasping certain concepts and skills, tests, and even failure. It is crucial for L&D to recognize and navigate these genuine barriers when designing learning experiences and environments within, and across, a company. Acknowledging that not everyone’s educational path was successful and that for some, the hope was that learning and classrooms would be in the past. As a curriculum developer and facilitator, my role may extend beyond content creation and delivery and into helping participants (re)discover their own capacity to learn. #lifelonglearning #futureoflearning #2030skills #selfefficacy #landd #traininganddevelopment
