At #STIEngage2024, we heard from Admiral Rachel Levine, Assistant Secretary for Health, U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS), about the urgency of responding to the U.S. #syphilis and #congenitalsyphilis epidemic. An essential component of our response is #publichealth #surveillance staging, which supports the prevention and control of syphilis in a variety of important ways. For example, (1) identification of new cases helps ensure the #treatment of people with syphilis and supports real-time identification of new infections; (2) it provides consistent and accurate #data about status and trends in the burden of disease; and (3) it supports resource allocation and prioritization efforts by enabling targeted #advocacy for funding and resources, as well as #prevention communication. Public health surveillance requires that public health officials classify and count cases consistently across reporting jurisdictions. This new course 👇 developed by JSI, in close collaboration with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention Division of STD Prevention, is designed to help health health department staff apply the surveillance case definition and stage cases of adult syphilis (i.e., syphilis that is not congenitally acquired) in accordance with the #CSTE Surveillance Case Definition. 📣 Please help spread the word to state and local health department surveillance staff and #STI programs!
🌟 New Web-Based Course on #Syphilis Available Today! 🌟 We are thrilled to introduce a new free, web-based course: Surveillance Staging of Adult Syphilis (Course Number: WB4735), now available on CDC TRAIN! It’s encouraging to see the new guidance from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention for schools, especially as we approach the summer holidays. This is a crucial time for #schools to implement measures to reduce disease transmission for the upcoming academic year. The PR states; “As school administrators are closing out the current school year and planning for the new school year in the fall, CDC is providing the guidance now to ensure it can be part of those back-to-school preparations” “The new guidance is consistent with the recently released CDC Respiratory Virus Guidance. It is intended to support schools in developing and implementing actions and plans to guide them in maintaining a healthy and safe environment” It's essential for policymakers worldwide to take note of this guidance and consider implementing similar strategies. Let's prioritise the health and safety of students and staff, support in-person learning, and improve health and learning outcomes. “CDC has updated actions schools can take to prevent germs from spreading and keep kids healthy and learning,” said CDC Director Mandy Cohen, M.D., M.P.H. “This update puts lessons learned into actionable steps schools can follow to keep our kids, teachers, and school staff safe.” https://lnkd.in/eWTajK5V #CDC #SchoolSafety #Education #BackToSchoolPreparations #LongCovid #LongCovidKids #CleanAir #CleanTheAirWeShare
