In early April, the EPA set its first-ever limit on PFAS in drinking water, following mounting evidence that chemicals in contaminated water can pose a health risk to people at even the smallest detectable levels of exposure. Now, a first-of-its-kind study has found that the “forever chemicals” — toxic compounds found in everyday beauty and personal care items like sunscreen, waterproof mascara and lipstick — can seep through human skin and enter the bloodstream. #PFAS #ForeverChemicals #Pollutants

Did You Know? Some 'Forever Chemicals' May Be Absorbed Through Our Skin! A new study has revealed that per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS), commonly found in everyday products like cosmetics, food packaging, and waterproof gear, can be absorbed through our skin and potentially enter our bloodstream. 🧴💧 These "forever chemicals" are known for their durability, thanks to their nearly unbreakable bonds between carbon and fluorine atoms. Despite their widespread use since the 1940s, recent research shows they can pose serious #health risks. 🧪⚠️ In a recent study, researchers at the University of Birmingham exposed 3-D human skin models to PFAS and found that 11 out of 17 types could cross the skin barrier. Even those developed as "safer" alternatives proved problematic. 👩🔬 While these findings highlight a new exposure route, it's essential to note that real-life skin absorption might vary. However, it's a crucial reminder to be mindful of the products we use daily. 🚿👕 Stay informed, stay safe! 🌟 #EnvironmentalHealth #PFAS #ForeverChemicals #SkinCare #HealthSafety #ScienceNews American Association for Precision Medicine (AAPM) #AAPMhealth #AAPM_Health

"virtually no level of exposure to these chemicals is safe for humans,". "they're used in everything from, like, rugs to raincoats...anything that you've used that has waterproofing in it. And they're also in makeup, and they're certainly in things that play a role in absorbency." This legislation will reduce peoples' exposure to PFAS! Another way to do so is to remove PFAS from your water. AIMM is working on our filter which will more quickly remove a wider range of PFAS. #water #SafeWater #safewaterforall #WATERFILTRATION #waterfilter #waterfilters #nanomaterials #nanotechnology #nanotech #aimmlabs https://lnkd.in/gwyjFbnY

The natural health community has known about toxins and phthalates for some time... But mainstream media is finally catching up, and information about the dangers of these substances is becoming more prevalent. Phthalates are a group of chemical compounds used as plasticizers to increase the flexibility, transparency, durability, and longevity of plastics. The majority of phthalate exposure comes from plastics. They can be found in PVC, food packaging, cosmetics, bath products, cleaning products, children’s toys, furniture, and more... 🎙️ Want to learn how it can deeply impact your health? Are you familiar with PFAS chemicals? Here's a quick #WaterFactWednesday to help you live healthier. Per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) are a family of human-made chemicals used to make common products that resist heat, oil, stains, grease, and water. You might find them in stain or water-resistant clothing or carpets; shampoos, lipsticks, and dental floss; and some nonstick cookware. Health risks from PFAS exposure are unclear, but they may include certain types of cancers, increased blood pressure levels or pre-eclampsia in pregnant women, and lower infant birth weights. You can make small changes to help reduce your PFAS exposure: - Transfer takeout foods into glass, ceramic, or other non-plastic containers before reheating them. - Replace non-stick pots and pans with safer alternatives, such as cast-iron or enamel-coated cookware. - Seek out “waterproof,” “water-resistant,” or “stain-resistant” clothing labeled as “PFAS-free.” - Look for PFAS-free alternatives to dental floss, cosmetics, and other personal care products. Many companies now make PFAS-free products. Keep your eye out! Does your agency need support communicating about PFAS? Contact Jennifer L. R. at jrogers@wsc-inc.com.

Did you know that the average woman applies over 100 chemicals on her skin each day? From parabens and phthalates to synthetic fragrances, these ingredients can be absorbed by your skin, potentially leading to long-term health concerns.
