Believe it or not, the end goal isn't to be culturally competent. I ultimately want every practitioner and organization to become culturally RESPONSIVE in nutrition education. But what I see, again and again, in nutrition education spaces is that there isn't even a strong foundation in Cultural Competency. And if we don't have a solid grasp of this, how can we move towards cultural humility, much less cultural responsiveness? Register for the 2-part webinar series "An Introduction to Culturally Competent Nutrition Education Delivery and Design," where we will explore the intersection of cultural competence theory and nutrition education and provide a crucial foundation for understanding the spectrum of cultural inclusion. Gain practical insights and tangible tools that will empower you to deliver and design nutrition education with optimal inclusion and maximum impact in your community. Don't miss out on this opportunity to elevate your approach to nutrition education. Register now to secure your spot! CEUs pending. Sessions will be recorded. Registered Dietitian 🍓Creator of the Peas & Hoppy Meal Guides 🫐 Life’s too short for bad food 🍽 FREE resources to make mealtime easier 👉🏼 PeasAndHoppiness.com/Hello
When it comes to nutrition, there is SO much “noise” out there… From influencers to well-meaning (but under-trained) doctors to nutritionists who earned their certification in a month – There are a LOT of “experts” who claim to understand the nuance of nutrition science, but don’t have the education or training to back it up. In honor of Registered Dietitian Day, I’d like to give a shout-out to some of my favorite fellow RDs and all the work we do to stay on top of the latest research. I love working and collaborating with health coaches, chiropractors, medical doctors, naturopathic doctors, and lots of other professions - BUT… When it comes to nutrition it’s important to work with someone who has the proper training and continuing education. Go see your doctor when you have strep throat. Come see me if you want to cultivate a healthy relationship with food, reduce your risk of cancer/heart disease/diabetes, and improve your energy, sleep, and stress level. Tag your favorite Registered Dietitian to share the love and spread the word about who to talk to when you need a nutrition expert! Happy Registered Dietitian Day, Dietitian Ann P.S. Fun Fact: the terms “Registered Dietitian” (RD) and “Registered Dietitian Nutritionist” (RDN) are interchangeable! The Commission on Dietetic Registration lets each RD/RDN choose which title they prefer. P.P.S. Effective January 2, 2024 Registered Dietitians are now required to have a minimum of a master’s degree to be able to sit for the national exam. Prior to this a bachelor’s degree was required. Happy International Fact Check Day! On International Fact Check Day, I encourage everyone to approach nutrition information critically and seek evidence-based advice. Here is what you can do to make informed decisions to support your health and well-being: 1. Verify your sources: Ensure that the information you’re getting comes from reputable, evidence-based sources such as qualified dietitians, nutrition organizations, or peer-reviewed journals. 2. Consult a professional (Dont hesitate to ask his/her credentials) : When in doubt, consult with a qualified dietitian or healthcare provider who can provide personalized guidance based on your health status, lifestyle, and preferences. 3. Question sensational claims: Be wary of bold claims or miracle cures. If something sounds too good to be true, it probably is. Look for balanced, realistic advice backed by scientific evidence. 4.Consider context: Nutrition is highly individualized, and what works for one person may not work for another. Consider the context of the information being presented and how it applies to your own unique needs and goals. Hi! I am Malvika Fulwani, a Clinical Dietitian and a Certified Diabetes Educator with 8+ years of experience in the field of Medical Nutrition Therapy! #dtmalvikafulwani #clinicaldietitian #dietitian #certifieddiabeteseducator #factcheck #internationalfactcheckingday
