#TheJourney - today I had an incredible conversation with George Eacott we of course did the usual, career journey conversation. but George also weaved in some really incredible advice, bring back some of the learnings that were taught in with HCD (which he was responsible for)... being "WHY?" Why is such a fundamental question it links to more directive questions such as what is the purpose, where is the value, what is the objective and what's the return on investment. George reminded me that like most things Energy is finite, if we are to expel energy we need to be conscious of what we get in return. We were talking yes about business objectives broadly but also personal ones. How can we invest in ourselves and make sure we are getting return on that investment, be that formal education or the quality of our conversation and being direct in our understanding. Every great journey starts with a single step.. but your compass tells you the direction. So before we start with what and start stepping we should always spend time in why. Otherwise we may be headed in the wrong direction or worse, heading in a circle. We talked as well about a great deal of other important and fascinating topics as well but I want to respect YOUR energy. I don't post often, but as many know I recently completed my doctorate, and I wanted to put my work out for everyone to see. I'd like to thank those of you that shared your insights as a part of the study, and I hope that the work is as interesting to others as I found it. The study focuses on the experiences of CTOs and CIOs and their experiences with technical debt in their respective organizations.
