Lesser panda, red-cat-bear, the firefox -- red pandas have many nicknames. 🐾 We prefer "first panda" and "original panda" -- because they were discovered almost 50 years before the giant panda 🐼 -- which inspired the name for the First Panda Challenge! First Panda Challengers are generous donors, like Fort Wayne Children's Zoo Scentbird and Zoo Boise, whose contributions are currently doubling the impact of donations to protect red pandas. 🙏 Make twice the impact ✌for red panda conservation today! https://lnkd.in/dBE8mjwh 🤔 What are your favorite nicknames for the red panda? Extreme wildfire events are increasing in frequency and severity, due to rapid global changes in climate, vegetation, land use and resource management. The cumulative economic cost of wildfires is incalculable, and health effects to humans and other species from wildfire smoke are persistent and widespread. Uncontrolled forest and rural fires have had significant impacts on the societies, economies and environment of the Latin America and the Caribbean region. The Centro de Conservación Biológica de Operaciones Forestales will provide wildfire science and management strategies to increase capacity in the LAC region and equip decision makers to prevent wildfires and reduce their impacts. Please consider supporting the CCBOF Initiative on #GivingTuesday 🙏
This #GivingTuesday, Conservation Biology Institute is launching a new initiative to support wildfire risk reduction, and we need your help. We have partnered with the Colombian National Firefighting Academy, to establish a Latin American Center for Biological Conservation and Forest Operations. The center will develop novel wildfire research, consolidate existing scientific knowledge and data, educate community members on wildfire risk reduction and response, as well as train firefighters in the latest wildfire management approaches. DONATE - https://lnkd.in/ghMJ5f7f With your donation, CBI will be able to put further conservation efforts toward wildfire resilience with the upcoming Wildfire Collective. Those who donate $50 or more will have the opportunity to attend exclusive presentations led by our top scientists and researchers! Top donors will also receive recognition on our website (optional)! Facing unprecedented severity and frequency of fires in ecosystems that are not fire-adapted, biodiversity in the Latin American and Caribbean region has taken a huge hit. Meanwhile, Indigenous people of the Amazon are twice as likely to die from wildfire smoke. While it may seem far away to you, the Amazon Basin is a critical part of the health of the entire planet. Not only is it the most biodiverse region on earth, but it also is one of the planet’s largest carbon sinks, storing 150B metric tons of carbon, equivalent to 10 years worth of global fossil fuel emissions. Even if the world reduced human-caused emissions enough to get on track to fulfill the Paris Climate Agreement, keeping global warming below a 1.5-degree-C increase from pre-industrial levels, a sudden loss of the Amazon and its stored carbon would put that target out of reach. Your donation will help us have a direct impact on wildfire prevention, resilience and recovery in the Latin America and Caribbean region. Thank you for your generosity!

Our Consultancy division within Chevron Green Services has put together this awesome calendar, detailing the flora and fauna you might come across whilst working outside. It documents what characteristics the species has now, what to do if you spot it and how to mitigate any risk. Head to the link in their post to download your own copy (for free!) #ecology #environmentalservices #workingoutdoors #riskassessment #safetyfirst
New year, new version of our Flora and Fauna calendar is now available. Created by our Consultancy division with outdoor workers in mind, we list the many unwelcome species you might come across whilst working outside. The calendar details not only how they present right now, but also the things you can do to mitigate any risk. It's free to download your own version, but if you'd like to add a donation, we've nominated BUGLIFE - THE INVERTEBRATE CONSERVATION TRUST. Full details, including the download link is on our website: https://ow.ly/FNFs50Ut9MN #biodiversity #outdoorworkers #riskassessment #insects #invasiveplants

As you've heard, CBI is participating in #GivingTuesday this year, and we need your help! This is a Hyacinth Macaw - a vulnerable species in Latin America that was previously listed as endangered in 2013. This species of macaw relies on a small number of endemic trees for both food and habitat, often competing with other birds. While most forest habitat loss for this species is driven by logging and deforestation, across Latin America, including in this species range, the frequency and severity of wildfires continues to increase without an adequate mitigation response, creating the possiblility for further habitat loss and increased strain on present day populations of Hyacinth macaws. This Giving Tuesday, we are asking for donations to help fund our work to establish the Latin America Center for Biological Conservation and Forest Operations. With these donations, CBI will be able to further our efforts toward improving wildfire resilience in Latin America, where we will develop novel wildfire research, consolidate high-quality data, educate communities, and train firefighters in the latest wildfire management approaches. Just one day left. If you’re thinking of giving, please don’t delay! We still have £12k in match-funding to unlock through our Big Give #ChristmasChallenge. Every donation will be doubled until the deadline at 12 noon tomorrow, Tuesday 10th: https://lnkd.in/egwyW-ee Many vets working in the most biodiverse regions of our planet struggle to access affordable and appropriate training in wildlife medicine. WVI can provide the flexible, tailored and sustainable support they need to build their confidence, competence and courage in caring for threatened species. We can do this relatively easily and cheaply – but sadly not for free. That’s why we’re asking for your help to give people the transformative training they need to have a real impact on the animals they work with – and ultimately on conservation and the protection of biodiversity. We can all be part of that bigger picture, helping safeguard the health of all who share the planet. #TrainingVets #ChangingLives #SavingSpecies #OnePlanet #OneHealth #OneFuture #ConservationMedicine

We are very excited and grateful to announce that The Conservation Foundation’s Green Earth Harvest program just received a $360,000 grant from Endeavor Health’s Community Investment Fund for infrastructure, equipment, and capacity building! This grant, in addition to the donation of a new pole barn that will be built in 2025, will make this a transformational year for our certified organic farm program here in Naperville, where we provide fresh, local organic vegetables to more than 650 families through our farm share program and help to feed more than 900 families through partnerships with local food pantries. Today, August 12th, is all about raising awareness for the fragile state of these magnificent animals. To help elephants, since 2020, we’ve partnered with Wild Tomorrow, a South African reserve dedicated to the conservation and recovery of endangered species by creating and protecting natural habitats. Each year, we allocate part of our 1% for the Planet commitment - which is 1% of the company's revenue (not profits) - to support their incredible work. This year, we’re aiming to make an even bigger impact: 🐘 From August 12th to 18th, we’ll be matching every donation made through our website, effectively doubling your contribution. 🐘 Plus, during this period, all the funds we raise through 1% for the Planet will go directly to Wild Tomorrow and their cause. Join us in making a difference: https://lnkd.in/dXFz9fRD Learn more about preserving elephant habitats with insights from Wild Tomorrow: https://lnkd.in/ecCi2qpp #WorldElephantDay #trendsplant #bcorp #values #commitment
