This is a fun trial to enroll patients in. We have known for years that immunotherapy and chemoimmunotherapy are both options in PD-L1 >= 50% metastatic lung cancer. However, they have never been compared head-to-head with each other, mostly because industry won't fund it. Looking through the clinical trial database, there appears to be one phase III trial trying to answer this question. This NCI-sponsored trial compares combination pembrolizumab, pemetrexed and carboplatin to a sequential therapy of pembrolizumab followed by pemetrexed and carboplatin (+/- pembro) after progression. This trial does a lot of things right, including comparing combination therapy to sequential therapy. Right now we sort of decide between immunotherapy and chemoimmunotherapy based on a patient's fitness and extent of disease, which isn't the best science. The study is estimated to complete in 2028, but hopefully we will be able to see data from interim analyses before that. #lungcancer #keytruda #immunotherapy https://lnkd.in/eym33a9a

Data on health needs to be captured exchanged and reused based on common formats! The one is the European EHRxFormat, and if that can help advance research and practice of oncology it means interoperability can save lives !

Super excited and honored to testify in front of the U.S. House Committee on Small Business on Wednesday, May 8th at 10 AM EST at their hearing on "Stifling Innovation Examining the Impacts of Regulatory burdens on Small Businesses in Healthcare." As an internist every day on service I am acutely aware that pharmaceutical products help me treat patients and alleviate their symptoms or cure disease. Many times it is small scrappy companies that are responsible for the fountain of innovation. These small companies are also the canaries in the coal mine and can tell us when regulatory policy is oppressive and burdensome. I look forward to talking about ways that we can continue to modernize the FDA in order to support entrepreneurs and small businesses bringing innovative products to market to help patients.
