It has never been uncommon to witness decades marked by iconic women who, with a pioneering spirit and a vision that sees possibilities in everything, transcended established norms in fashion, music, and the arts. This way of being that breaks paradigms of its own time even has a name: "it girl." However, this force that once defined a generation in other moments of history seems to have dissipated amidst the overwhelming information of this digital era. A question started to linger: where are the it girls now? And, more importantly, how can we reclaim that transformative spirit that creates its trends and is not satisfied with what is given? With that in mind, the OUT OF OFFICE team and the Manu Gavassi team joined forces with Vogue Eyewear (Luxottica) to create a campaign concept that encourages the awakening of the it girl within each individual. It's about reclaiming that personality that has always marked different eras with its unique view of the world and - let's be honest - is much needed in today's times, where creativity and authenticity are so essential and, at the same time, so challenging to put into practice. A collection of "cool, bold, and fashion-forward" eyewear that rescues the it-girl spirit that exists in everyone. Obviously, it's Vogue Eyewear.

“In order to be irreplaceable, one must always be different”. We recently travelled to London as part of our buying season. Whilst there we took ourselves off to the V&A museum, to look at the Gabrialle ‘Coco’ Chanel exhibition. This woman was so incredible, her innovations changed how women dressed in the 20th century and impact fashion today. Yet long before that, she persevered through enormous self-belief. That journey holds valuable lessons for women even today: INNOVATING BOLDLY DESPITE THE NORMS Mme Chanel thrived in a heavily male-dominated industry to become one of the world’s first successful female fashion entrepreneurs. She daringly moved away from formal, restrictive women’s wear to simple yet sophisticated styles allowing freer movement. Her vision and conviction enabled her to challenge industry norms. CHANNELLING SELF-BELIEF TO OVERCOME SKEPTISICM When Chanel announced retirement in 1954 at 71 years old, long-time rival Christian Dior dismissed the ability of women in haute couture. With what I can only liken to a two-fingered response, she launched a comeback and within a decade rode triumphantly over her critics. Self-belief fuelled her second success streak. As entrepreneurs, we must drown out the chorus of scepticisms by cultivating fierce self-confidence in our abilities. While demanding uncompromising excellence of herself, her designs, I was intrigued that she nonchalantly named her iconic branded items like the 2.55 bag, (because they were completed in February 1955) or Chanel No.5 (was simply the 5th sample, she liked and chose). I suppose she kept perspective by not sweating the small stuff, once success was clearly assured. What mindsets that empowered Coco Chanel’s success can we model today to create an enduring entrepreneurial vision? Perhaps by balancing self-belief with flexibility, focus on the journey, a healthy dismissal of condescension and inner belief? We’d love to hear your thoughts. #FearlessFounders #VisionToReality #EmpoweredEntrepreneurs

【The road to acquiring Chanel: The Wertheimer family】 Paul, the Wertheimer family's second generation, died in 1948, and his brother Pierre purchased all of his shares. On Paul's deathbed, the two brothers made an arrangement with Gabrielle Chanel, promising to give her 2% of the shares for the brand's title, sell her fragrances in Switzerland, and pay for her living expenses, thereby ending the issue. In 1954, Gabrielle Chanel wanted to make a return in the fashion industry, so she asked Pierre for help and used all her shares in exchange for selling rights to Chanel's all products. Pierre then acquired back 20% of the Bard family's shares, transforming Chanel into a firm solely controlled by the Wertheimer family. When CHANEL is 100% in the hands of the Wertheimer family, how will the Wertheimer family keep the relationship with Channel? Source: 蔡鴻青. (2023). 韦特海默家族:香奈儿背后的隐形帝国. 家族企業. (94), 75-76. Blige stands as a testament to what can be achieved despite early challenges, with a legacy of musical and fashion triumphs, including partnerships with renowned brands. Beauty and Circularity: An International Reflection - A Recap ✨ Last Saturday, I attended the "Beauty and Circularity: An International Reflection" event, an inspiring gathering curated by Timothy Aarons and featuring discussions afterwards joined by Janice Deul, in collaboration with the Fashion for Good Museum. The evening was filled with insights and engaging discussions, all revolving around the pivotal themes of black beauty representation, diversity, and inclusivity. At the heart of the event was the screening of "The Beauty of Blackness," a captivating documentary that shed light on the remarkable journey of Fashion Fair. Once a revered pioneer in championing diversity and black beauty, the brand had gradually faded from prominence. Through the lens of industry veterans Cheryl and Desiree, who took it upon themselves to revitalize the brand, attendees embarked on a profound journey of reflection and hope. In an era where groundbreaking brands like Rihanna's Fenty Beauty are redefining industry standards, the documentary posed a significant question: Will this truly inclusive brand resonate with the younger generation? The film sparked deep conversations about the importance of inclusivity and representation in the beauty industry. It offered a moving glimpse into the challenges faced in achieving diversity and more inclusive makeup shades, complemented by personal anecdotes from pioneering women who paved the way for change. One particularly moving moment was the intergenerational exchange, reaffirming the significance of diversity and inclusivity. Despite strides forward, the need for genuine representation and inclusivity behind the scenes remains paramount. Following the screening, Janice Deul and Timothy Aarons delved deeper into the discourse through an insightful interview. Janice emphasized the necessity for true diversity, stressing the importance of embracing diverse experiences beyond a singular notion of blackness. Timothy echoed her sentiments, highlighting how makeup serves as a platform for activism, empowering marginalized communities through visibility. Janice Deul's unwavering dedication to making the Dutch beauty industry more inclusive serves as a powerful reminder of the hurdles faced by trailblazers. Her resilience in the face of adversity underscores the vital importance of perseverance. Ultimately, the event served as a powerful reminder that diversity and inclusivity are not mere buzzwords but fundamental pillars of a vibrant and equitable industry. As we navigate the evolving landscape of beauty, let us strive to amplify diverse voices and challenge outdated norms. ✨ #𝗳𝗮𝘀𝗵𝗶𝗼𝗻𝗳𝗼𝗿𝗴𝗼𝗼𝗱 #𝗶𝗻𝗰𝗹𝘂𝘀𝗶𝘃𝗲𝗯𝗲𝗮𝘂𝘁𝘆 #𝗱𝗶𝘃𝗲𝗿𝘀𝗲𝗯𝗲𝗮𝘂𝘁𝘆 #𝗯𝗲𝗮𝘂𝘁𝘆𝗿𝗲𝗽𝗿𝗲𝘀𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 #𝗯𝗲𝗮𝘂𝘁𝘆𝗜𝗶𝗻𝗱𝘂𝘀𝘁𝗿𝘆𝗶𝗻𝘀𝗶𝗴𝗵𝘁𝘀 📷 Picture via allevents
