The PULLMAN-Walker team is excited to collaborate with GSA on repairs to a vital parking structure at the Patrick V. McNamara Federal Building in Detroit. With a sustainability improvement focus, this Design-Build project will preserve and extend the service life of the parking structure minimizing environmental impact using LEC (Low Embodied Carbon) materials. The PULLMAN-Walker team, and its team of subcontractor partners, is energized to deliver this important project aligned with GSA’s Design & Construction Excellence Programs. Robert Johnson Jr. from PULLMAN was honored to speak about the project at a recent GSA press conference. #P+Ex #DesignBuild

On behalf of the Pullman Walker team, I'd like to thank Jason and Administrator Carnahan for the opportunity to partner with GSA on this important historical preservation repair and upgrade project at the Patrick V McNamara Federal Building, a project which is a direct result of the Inflation Reduction Act. Preserving and extending the life of concrete structures delivers the highest level of environmental commitment. Proactive repair and renewal of existing infrastructure lowers the level of resources consumed, minimizes disruption, and dramatically reduces the carbon footprint. And I'm pleased to share with you that all of the 2600 yards of concrete and thousands of pounds of Reese Steel that will be used during the parking structure upgrade meet GSA's requirements for low embodied carbon materials, increasing the environmental benefits of the solutions in the Pullman Walker project plan. GSA selection of design build delivery led to a collaborative approach to developing the highest value solutions among Walker, Pullman and our local business partners. I'm proud to be standing here today alongside IBEW Local 58 and to share with you that our electrical contracting partner, Detroit Power Systems, will play an important role during construction, providing electrical vehicle chargers and high efficiency lighting throughout the garage. Our team is committed to supporting locally owned disadvantaged businesses because as part of the Detroit community for nearly 30 years, Pullman understands the importance of being built for us and by us in this city. To that goal, the project labor agreement on this job will include all local union craft, including laborers, brick layers and allied craft workers, and many more. As we turn now to implementing the project, we do so with respect for the historical preservation aspects and with an understanding of the importance of GSA's design and construction excellence program, which will be our standard for our design and construction operations. We look forward to working with GSA to a safe and successful completion, and we thank you very much for the opportunity. Thanks.

It is important to be adept at finding a solution as soon as you see the problem or hear the beginning of its narrative so that you move forward and that your efforts to complete the project do not falter on time. This is what I seek to make the team have a special way of creating the compatible solution and it is refined to be suitable for the environment of old buildings to develop in line with modern equipment... The challenge continues and we will continue to avoid the consequences whatever they are.
