3,5 Billion EUR for Connectivity, between Europe and Asia: the Yavuz-Sultan-Selim-Bridge. 1.4 km seem to be large, but for space dimensions it is short. It has been built just in 3 years, 2013-2016. Also short in universal time scale. Why do I think about it, shipping below the bridge towards the Black Sea? Turkey decided for a bridge for 3.5 B.EUR, and Europe/Germany complains about 12 BEUR for a satellite constellation connecting Europe with the hole world??? Achieving "non-dependence", also within 3-5 years!!! Ok, the involvement of a large number of European space ecosystem players is not yet secured. This must be adjusted, including a reliable sustainable approach. But Germany alone has an annual household 2024 of 476 Billion. Hey, it is a matter of priorities, of the political parties and its individuals. By the way: since I saw the photo of the Bosporus from space, taken from the German EO-Sat ENMAP (see cover page of "Deutsche Raumfahrtstrategie"), for which we HPS delivered an optical baffle as secondary structure, and since I was first time in Romania at the Black Sea in Mamaia and Vama Veche, I always wanted to experience the water-route by myself. As CERN celebrates 70 years of discovery, and it’s a powerful reminder of how science unites nations, did you know the Western Balkan countries were among its founders? Among CERN’s 12 founding members was Yugoslavia, representing a vision for international collaboration and scientific excellence. Although Yugoslavia’s journey at CERN was cut short in 1961 due to political and financial challenges, the countries that emerged after its breakup have made significant strides in re-engaging with this global scientific hub. 🔹 Serbia, rejoining CERN in 2019 as a full member, is a leading example, actively participating in groundbreaking projects and reaping mutual benefits. 🔹 Croatia (now an EU member) continues its collaboration and aims for full membership 🔹 Other countries like Bosnia and Herzegovina are taking steps toward deeper engagement through cooperation agreements. This renewal of ties shows the immense potential of the Western Balkans to contribute to global science. At the Institute for Socioeconomic Development of the Western Balkans (ISED-WB), we believe that science and collaboration are key drivers of peace and progress. [𝗦𝗹𝗼𝘃𝗲𝗻𝗶𝗮 𝗮 𝗳𝘂𝗹𝗹 𝗺𝗲𝗺𝗯𝗲𝗿 𝗼𝗳 𝗘𝘂𝗿𝗼𝗽𝗲𝗮𝗻 𝗦𝗽𝗮𝗰𝗲 𝗔𝗴𝗲𝗻𝗰𝘆 𝗳𝗿𝗼𝗺 𝟭. 𝗝𝗮𝗻𝘂𝗮𝗿𝘆 𝟮𝟬𝟮𝟱] 🛰 Slovenia signed an agreement on the basis of which Slovenia will become a full member of European Space Agency - ESA on 1. January 2025. This is an important milestone for Slovenian space industry as well as an achievement for the Ministrstvo za gospodarstvo, turizem in šport / Ministry of the Economy, Tourism and Sport. 🎯 Full membership of the Republic of Slovenia will: 1) Open the door for the 𝗽𝗮𝗿𝘁𝗶𝗰𝗶𝗽𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗼𝗳 𝗦𝗹𝗼𝘃𝗲𝗻𝗶𝗮𝗻 𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗽𝗮𝗻𝗶𝗲𝘀 𝗶𝗻 𝗽𝗿𝗼𝗴𝗿𝗮𝗺𝘀 in which the Slovenian space sector has not been able to participate so far. These are two programs that represent the core of the ESA: the fundamental technological research program and the scientific program. 2) Enable Slovenian companies to upgrade 𝗰𝗼𝗼𝗽𝗲𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝘄𝗶𝘁𝗵 𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗽𝗮𝗻𝗶𝗲𝘀 𝗳𝗿𝗼𝗺 𝗼𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗿 𝗘𝗦𝗔 𝗺𝗲𝗺𝗯𝗲𝗿 𝘀𝘁𝗮𝘁𝗲𝘀 and acquire 𝗻𝗲𝘄 𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗺𝗲𝗿𝗰𝗶𝗮𝗹 𝗽𝗿𝗼𝗷𝗲𝗰𝘁𝘀. 3) Enable equal 𝗰𝗼𝗼𝗽𝗲𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗼𝗳 𝗦𝗹𝗼𝘃𝗲𝗻𝗶𝗮 with other ESA members in adopting 𝗸𝗲𝘆 𝗱𝗲𝗰𝗶𝘀𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀. 4) Increase the 𝘃𝗶𝘀𝗶𝗯𝗶𝗹𝗶𝘁𝘆 𝗼𝗳 𝗦𝗹𝗼𝘃𝗲𝗻𝗶𝗮 as an important player in international space. ℹ More information (in Slovene) 👇 https://lnkd.in/dNEC6wQi

The dialogue emphasized the value of transparent processes and ongoing communication for successful global partnerships, bolstering emerging markets in the space sector. Collaboration between Japanese and African space industries can drive progress in agriculture, disaster management, and telecommunications, addressing crucial challenges through space technology. This aligns with the overarching goal of international cooperation, empowering African nations to strengthen their capabilities and achieve self-sufficiency in space technology. The exponential increase in satellite launches across Africa, from five countries with satellites in orbit in 2017 to over 20 countries with 125 satellites by 2023, underscores the region's substantial interest and investment in space technology. With the global space industry's value exceeding $4 trillion, expanding economic influence in new markets necessitates mutual reciprocity, transparency, and trust-building. The African space industry, valued at $19.49 billion in 2021, is forecasted to grow by 16.16% to $22.64 billion by 2026. For Japanese space companies, Africa represents a promising frontier for collaboration, contributing to the continent's technological and economic advancement.  𝐄𝐠𝐲𝐩𝐭𝐢𝐚𝐧 𝐒𝐩𝐚𝐜𝐞 𝐀𝐠𝐞𝐧𝐜𝐲 𝐬𝐭𝐫𝐞𝐧𝐠𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐧𝐬 𝐭𝐢𝐞𝐬 𝐰𝐢𝐭𝐡 𝐉𝐚𝐩𝐚𝐧 Dr. Sherif Sedky, CEO of the Egyptian Space Agency, hosted Mr. Suzuki Yusuke, Economic Advisor at the Japanese Embassy in Egypt, and his delegation on January 23, 2025, to discuss bilateral cooperation in space technology. The Japanese delegation, which included Second Secretary Kawashima Shizuki and Senior Economic Analyst Minas Ahmed, met with the agency's senior management team to explore ways to enhance collaboration and share expertise in the space sector. The visit included a tour of key facilities, including the Assembly, Integration, and Testing Center (AITC) and the control and image reception station for the MisrSat-2 satellite, demonstrating Egypt's space capabilities and infrastructure. In the panel Global Space Tech Landscape: Shaping Ecosystems, Emerging Trends and International Collaboration Opportunities (30 Oct, 9:45am - 10:25am), we will discuss about international space collaboration opportunities between Singapore, Italy and UK. In particular the general trends in Italian space tech ecosystem, the priority areas and main applications will be presented. In Italy, the Space sector is very consolidated and includes a network of more than 70 Universities and Research Centers and more than 250 Companies. Recent contacts between the Agenzia Spaziale Italiana (ASI) and Office for Space Technology & Industry, Singapore (OSTIn) has boosted not only the bilateral cooperation but a regional footprint as well. An #ExecutiveProgram 2023-2025 in Science and Technology was signed last year and certainly space technologies could be included in the next one to accelerate this collaboration.
