#horizonscan Recent studies indicate a concerning trend regarding the increase ⚠️ of heavy metal residues, particularly cadmium, in cereals due to climate change. Research shows that lower air temperatures during the grain filling stage of rice plants can influence cadmium absorption and translocation, potentially leading to higher residues in the final product. The current Regulatory Framework has the following MRLs: EU - 0.15mg/kg CHINA - 0.2 mg/kg USA - No MRL specyfied, FDA monitors toxicological reference value (TRV) for cadmium exposure.
