It all started around 2020 when people like Bernie Sanders and Elizabeth Warren began attacking Elon on X merely for being a billionaire and calling for investigations into his businesses for absolutely no reason. Elon wasn’t really political on Twitter before this. The Biden/Harris held an EV summit in 2021 and didn’t invite Tesla, which literally sold 80% of electric vehicles in the U.S. at the time, while praising the CEO of GM as the “leader in EV’s” with less than 5% market share. Pause for a moment and think about how dumb this is. If Biden/Harris had just left Elon alone and let him run his businesses, or had chosen to work with him to HELP AMERICANS instead of fighting him at every turn, Elon wouldn’t have a needed to become political. Literally they have one of the greatest minds available to America (Elon), and not only did this administration and political party squander his talent, they actively took measures to TARGET his businesses with all the tools in Biden’s “we have many ways” lawfare toolbox. They literally pushed Elon into a corner. Elon didn’t have a choice. Elon was a DEMOCRAT before all of this happened. He was, and still is, a moderate. And I haven’t even gotten to the first amendment yet. Alarm bells definitely went off in Elon’s head when many social media accounts on the right were being censored and deleted on Twitter, including Donald Trump’s account. When Demis Hassabis and John Jumper had confirmed that AlphaFold2 really worked, they calcu­lated the structure of all human proteins. Then they predicted the structure of virtually all the 200 million proteins that researchers have so far discovered when mapping Earth’s organisms. Google DeepMind has also made the code for AlphaFold2 publicly available, and anyone can access it. The AI model has become a gold mine for researchers. By October 2024, AlphaFold2 had been used by more than two million people from 190 countries. Previously, it often took years to obtain a protein structure, if at all. Now it can be done in a few minutes. The AI model is not perfect, but it estimates the correctness of the structure it has produced, so researchers know how reliable the prediction is. Figure 5 shows a few of the many examples of how AlphaFold2 helps researchers. In recent years, one incredible protein creation after the other has emerged from Baker’s laboratory. Proteins’ amazing versatility as chemical tools is reflected in the vast diversity of life. That we can now so easily visualise the structure of these small molecular machines is mind boggling; it allows us to better understand how life functions, including why some diseases develop, how antibiotic resistance occurs or why some microbes can decompose plastic. The ability to create proteins that are loaded with new functions is just as astounding. This can lead to new nanomaterials, targeted pharmaceuticals, more rapid development of vaccines, minimal sensors and a greener chemical industry – to name just a few applications that are for the greatest benefit of humankind.
