Scaling is a non-profit’s top priority Interestingly, 74% of the non-profits in the country think the same. But is it the only metric for your mission’s success? Especially for smaller, community-focused organizations in India, the answer isn’t always clear-cut. Scaling can surely seem exciting, there is more visibility and potentially more impact. But it does pose its own set of challenges. Stretching resources too thin, and struggling to maintain the quality of your programs are real risks. Plus, what works wonders for someone, might not deliver the same results for another. The real question instead, should be about how you view scale. Is it about expanding your footprint, or is it about the depth and longevity of the impact you’re making? Often, in the pursuit of numbers, just ‘reach’ is mistaken for ‘impact’. But these two aren’t the same. Ask yourself: What would make your vision come alive? Quality or Quantity. Both approaches have their merits. But the real challenge lies in maintaining the impact and making it sustainable. Focusing on capacity building can help ensure your impact is sustainable. By amplifying your nonprofit's ability to deliver high-quality programs, you can achieve change that lasts. A shocking misuse of #ambition in the charity sector I recently spoke with a candidate about a role. They however, had hopped from one role to another several times in a short span of time Their current stint? Less than a month! 📅 When asked why they were looking to move so soon, I was expecting them to tell me that they were on a short-term contract or that the role wasn't the right fit Their response however left me stunned! They were happy in their current role But they had been given the advice to constantly seek the next step up ⬆ I don't think the candidate appreciated that they were essentially #exploiting a charities time, money and resources for their own advancement I had to tell them that frequent job changes don't look good on a #CV, unless it's a fixed-term contract Very little can be achieved of a job spec in a few months or less Please don't read this the wrong way. Ambition is a good thing! Many in the #charitysector are ambitious But using a charity as a springboard just for your own personal growth That's not right ❌ Join a #charity to make a difference To contribute to a cause you care about Achieve the goals you've been brought in to do 📈 Then explore career advancement opportunities within your charity or elsewhere Please don't misuse your personal ambition #charityjobs #makeanimpact #makeadifference
