The federal government is the latest addition to the long list of employers pulling back remote work policies in 2025. Regardless of your stance on remote versus in-office work, one undeniable trend my colleagues and I are seeing at Major, Lindsey and Africa: 𝘙𝘦𝘤𝘳𝘶𝘪𝘵𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘧𝘰𝘳 𝘰𝘯-𝘴𝘪𝘵𝘦 𝘱𝘰𝘴𝘪𝘵𝘪𝘰𝘯𝘴 𝘪𝘴 𝘮𝘶𝘤𝘩 𝘮𝘰𝘳𝘦 𝘤𝘩𝘢𝘭𝘭𝘦𝘯𝘨𝘪𝘯𝘨. Why? • Many candidates continue to prefer remote or flexible work arrangements and are still confident they can secure another similar position. • Candidates who are currently in remote jobs are very reluctant to give those up. • Hiring managers who previously hired remotely now have higher expectations. Remote hiring provides access to a national candidate pool. This is particularly beneficial for those hiring in specialized practice areas or companies located outside major metropolitan areas. Many hiring managers became accustomed to seeing a larger, often higher-quality pool and are now finding it challenging to meet their expectations with local candidates. On our Interim team, we frequently hear from clients struggling to fill on-site roles. As in-office requirements typically don’t apply to contractors, clients often ask me to find remote interim coverage while they continue their recruiting efforts. Want to make an impact?? Here is remote work in the social impact sector. While I'm not recruiting for these roles specifically, I just wanted to make job seekers aware that opportunities are all around you - Be open to them ;) Wondering how to stand out in a competitive job market? Consider creating a video resume! Write a 1 to 3-minute script using ChatGPT, rehearse it until you’ve nailed it, and then go the extra mile. If there’s a company you dream of working for, head to their campus and film your pitch in front of their sign, explaining why you’re the perfect fit. Don’t forget to showcase your personality—whether it’s a hobby like rock climbing (which I’d film as well) or something else that reflects who you are. Edit the footage, build a social media campaign around it, and post with hashtags tagging the company you're targeting. Be bold. Be adventurous. Be creative. Think outside the box! ChatGPT can make mistakes. C
