"When it comes to treating substance use disorder (SUD), the alternative to telemedicine is not always in-person care. It is often nothing. And if we can’t get people the medicine they need, a dealer will get them their drugs." Our CMO, James Ulager, MD, testifying at the Drug Enforcement Administration today.

This has always boggled my mind. SUD is such a unique area of medicine and unique care model, it needs regulation that mirrors its uniqueness. The one size fits all model of policy doesn’t work with MAT. It never has and never will. And like it was said, patients in this setting are going to find ways to get drugs regardless of what a policy says. The only difference is we’re forcing patients to gamble with life and death if we get this wrong.

Sadly, I feel anyway, that your eloquently written message will continue to fall in deaf ears amongst these drug enforcement agencies and other agencies who continue to fail to grasp the effect their decisions have on the public     Until one of their loved ones becomes effected by drug addiction, my family and I feel that these problems will continue. What's worse is that drug addiction is such a difficult battle in its own! When those in charge continue to make recovery harder and harder to begin for some folks, or to continue for others, it only exacerbates the problem!
