🌍🔋 Grateful to have had the opportunity to contribute to this technical paper on critical materials for the renewable energy transition. 𝐂𝐨𝐧𝐬𝐭𝐫𝐮𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐚 𝐫𝐚𝐧𝐤𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐨𝐟 𝐜𝐫𝐢𝐭𝐢𝐜𝐚𝐥 𝐦𝐚𝐭𝐞𝐫𝐢𝐚𝐥𝐬 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐠𝐥𝐨𝐛𝐚𝐥 𝐞𝐧𝐞𝐫𝐠𝐲 𝐭𝐫𝐚𝐧𝐬𝐢𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧: https://lnkd.in/dyh9XiC2
The paper identifies and ranks materials essential for green energy technologies. It's a product of great vision and leadership by Indra Overland and terrific work by the whole team! 🤝
First, a meta-list of critical materials was compiled based on existing lists of materials deemed critical for renewable energy. Second, a composite index of criticality was created based on indicators such as market diversification, mineral abundance, and substitution potential. The composite index was combined with the meta-list to generate criticality scores as the basis for the global ranking of critical materials:
1. Most critical: lithium, cobalt, copper, graphite, rare earth elements (REEs), others
2. Moderately critical: silver, strontium, platinum, others
3. Least critical: molybdenum, magnesium, others
This work highlights the dynamic nature of material criticality and offers policy recommendations for future-proofing supply chains. 🔧
