News from Europe: The EU Parliament passes AI Act in world’s first attempt at regulating the technology. On Wednesday, they voted through the #aiact, bringing in a range of rules, categorized by risk, across the common market that will enter into force in a staggered way over the next two years. It passed by a wide margin with 523 votes in favor, 46 against and 49 abstentions, and aims to protect fundamental rights, democracy, the rule of law and environmental sustainability from high-risk AI, while boosting innovation.
