Having a space in a tourism-oriented city as a non-profit organisation in culture is not easy, especially if you don't want to be in the outskirts. As it was the case for us back in 2016 when we were just starting, renting your own space is unimaginable and nowadays rental prices are even higher. Getting a city owned space as a non-profit is another challenge: the open calls take ages to be published, the process is not transparent at all and the choice is very limited. When we decided to rent a private space in 2021 after building our organisational and financial capacity mainly by joining European projects, we knew we could "survive" for a year. We always considered it as an investment that will bring other opportunities to us, and it did. We are continuously expanding the life of PROSTOR, but this also means we need to think of new ways of becoming more sustainable and depend (a bit) less on grants. In the pursuit of those efforts, T29 is born. During these almost three years of existence of PROSTOR we realised there is a real need for spaces in Split - flexible, modular, affordable and beautiful. Due to our limited capacity and high number of activities, we cannot accept everyone, so we decided to create an "annex" to PROSTOR. It's our social entrepreneurship venture through which we want to offer affordable event space in Split for anyone who needs it and in return use all the income generated to sustain the space and invest in our programs in PROSTOR. It took us only two months from the moment we reached out to the owner until the first workshop was held in the space. The adaptation works were not easy (mainly because we were doing everything by ourselves) but we made it! T29 is small, but we are sure that it will allow many to realise their ideas and programs and will empower those just thinking about starting something.
