Today's Tech bit: A breakthrough on the edge: One step closer to topological quantum computing: A team of experimental physicists led by the University of Cologne have shown that it is possible to create superconducting effects in special materials known for their unique edge-only electrical properties. This discovery provides a new way to explore advanced quantum states that could be crucial for developing stable and efficient quantum computers. Their study, titled 'Induced superconducting correlations in a quantum anomalous Hall insulator', has been published in Nature Physics. #QuantumComputing #Technology #Physics #Superconduction

Oxford Ionics win a £6m contract to supply a quantum computer to the UK’s National Quantum Computing Centre. Co-founded in 2019 by Dr Chris Ballance of Oxford’s Department of Physics, Oxford Ionics’ qubits are composed of individual atoms – the universe’s closest approximation to a perfect quantum system. RadiaBeam's qubit cavity employs innovative RadiaBeam technologies which may solve the challenges of long coherence time involved in quantum computing. In the photo, RadiaBeam’s and UChicago scientists are installing our qubit cavity into a dilution refrigerator (at UChicago) where it was cooled down to 0.01 degrees above absolute zero and tested. Sergey Kutsaev, Pedro Frigola, and notable scientists recently had a review paper on this topic accepted in Applied Physics Reviews. #lab #research #science #physics #particlephysics

Researchers at CERN have established, experimentally observed, and measured the decay of a charged kaon particle into a charged pion and a neutrino-antineutrino pair. This specific kind of decay is incredibly rare but well predicted by the complex mathematics making up the Standard Model of physics. Its rarity and precision makes it a highly sensitive gauge for detecting new physics. https://lnkd.in/esRybFE2

We published our #quantum research on "Stable quantum-correlated many-body states through engineered dissipation" in the #Science journal. Studying many-body quantum physics using quantum computers and simulators requires the generation of correlated many-body states. One promising but experimentally challenging approach is to use an external reservoir to repeatedly remove excitations from the system under study, which effectively cools the system toward its correlated ground state. #Google used this dissipative cooling method to prepare low-energy states of the transverse-field Ising model on a superconducting transmon quantum processor. Measuring long-range correlators of these states provided evidence of quantum correlations. Publication: https://lnkd.in/eAdrJXZk
