I had the pleasure of attending a very insightful event this week. Hosted by The Forces Transition Group, this remarkable organization is dedicated to assisting ex-forces individuals in finding employment opportunities and equipping them with the necessary tools for a successful career beyond the forces. The event featured the participation of various employers, and a couple of notable observations emerged. 1. The candidates seeking employment at the event were exceptionally well-matched with the 'ideal' candidate profile many employers look for when recruiting. 2. A substantial number of ex-forces employment initiatives are spearheaded by individuals who have themselves served in the forces. Considering the valuable skills that veterans bring to the workforce, it appears to be a logical step for employers with ongoing recruitment needs to establish veteran recruitment initiatives. Furthermore, there are numerous resources available to complement the desired skill sets, including those provided by The Skills Network.
