How do you invent a Cathedral? Do you start using innovative bricks, or an entirely new structure? Maybe we don’t need a physical Cathedral at all? A Cathedral is metaphor for University – something that has been a beacon of education throughout centuries. Of course, universities have evolved, and still do. But the pace of change in our global world – and the new demands from learners – accelerate the need for innovation in multiple ways. As an educational leader, I’m having constant conversations with educators in the classroom and one thing I push is we need to stop running away from AI tools and start embracing it. AI benefits the ones who are marginalized the most. It can be used to bridge the gap when there are language barriers and with students with dis/abilities. It can be used as a tool to increase engagement and offer different ways for students to illustrate their learning. It can aid the teacher transitioning from traditional methods that aren’t effect to more inclusive and culturally affirming methods where students have greater voice and choice in their learning, cultivating critical thinkers. Isn’t that the goal! I’m definitely hoping to learn as much as possible about AI to keep modeling and promoting its use as a valuable tool in classrooms.
