Elevating Careers in Gaming | Global Learning and Development Manager 🚀 | Creating Impact through Learning and Growth 🌱
I want to talk about careers, specifically in the games industry. Did you know that there's more to the games industry than just art, design, and programming? Really, there’s a whole lot more. CIG is unique in that we possibly display the widest array of careers needed in the games industry under one roof. Every career is crucial to the development of our product. You don’t need to be a wizard at coding, the Da Vinci of anatomy, or the Ive of design. Sometimes, you can be that one person who just goes out of their way to make everyone’s working day that much better—like Ashley McGovern. The point is, there is a place for everyone in games, no matter where you are from or what your passion is. It's all about perspective. The next 12 months are going to be our biggest yet, and I want to show the next generation where they fit in the games industry. Check out this amazing resource created by Simon Lawson 🔜Develop Brighton, one of our awesome Talent Acquisition Team. I will be breaking this down over the coming weeks and sharing it with schools and colleges. But for now, here's a little peek. #GamesIndustry #CareersInGaming #BeyondArtAndCode #GamingJobs #GameDevCommunity #FutureOfGaming #DiverseGamingRoles #GamingPassion #GameIndustryInsights #CareerOpportunities #GamingEducation

🎮✨ From Modding to Maxis Studios - EA: My Game Dev Journey ✨🎮 Hey LinkedIn gaming community! I'm Kaelah, a 21-year-old Texan and one of your friendly Assistant Producers on The Sims 4. Excited to share a bit about my game dev journey, especially since I've been getting a lot of people asking me about this! 🕹️ Gamer by Heart: I've been a gamer since forever, but the world of game development seemed mysterious. Initially, I thought it was all about design and engineering. 🚀 Modding Adventures: At 19, I dove into The Sims 4 modding scene under the name "ItsKatato", creating career mods to represent the diverse community. Starting with a cosmetology career, I later ventured into the unknown with active careers, responding to players' desires. 🌟 Breaking Ground with Mods: My preteen mod became a hit, answering a long-standing community request. This experience showcased the power of bridging player needs with creative solutions. 💡 Unlocking Roles with Code Coven: Joining Code Coven's Game Making & Professional Development program opened my eyes to the billion roles in game development. Team projects, like "Z is for Zombie," honed my management skills and deepened my connections. 🔍 Unexpected Opportunity: While wrapping up the program, I stumbled upon a job listing for an "Assistant Producer" at Maxis. Despite lacking a college degree and traditional experience, I threw my hat in the ring, not expecting much. 🌈 Passion Trumps "Experience": Surprisingly, Maxis saw value in my modding journey and Code Coven experience. Getting the entry-level role felt like a stretch, but my passion for The Sims series and dedication to inclusivity spoke volumes. 🛠️ From Interview Worries to Daily Delight: Fast forward almost a year and a half, I find myself loving what I do daily. This journey from modding to Maxis has been a wild ride, and I'm excited to see where it takes me! 🚀 Words of Wisdom: To those navigating unconventional paths into gaming, embrace your passion, build, and connect. You never know where your unique journey might lead you! 🌟 #GamingJourney #GameDevelopment #InclusivityInGaming #womeningames

Senior Game Developer & Designer, Architect and Mentor of the Game Creator Accelerator, and Founder of Wulum Ltd.
As someone deeply passionate about the gaming industry, I've often wondered why so many people who love video games never take the step towards becoming creators themselves. Despite the industry's rapid growth and the increasing accessibility of development tools, many aspiring game designers and developers seem to hesitate. There are numerous reasons for this: the intimidating learning curve of programming, the overwhelming amount of information available, and the uncertainty of where to begin. Many talented individuals are held back simply because they don't know how to transform their passion into a tangible skill set. Additionally, recent layoffs in the gaming industry have added to the uncertainty and hesitation among potential creators. However, I believe this challenging time can also be seen as an opportunity—a chance to gain new skills, explore creative ideas, and potentially start an independent project. I'm on a mission to understand these challenges better and to develop a program that provides aspiring game creators with the tools, knowledge, and methodologies they need to succeed. To do this, I need to hear from you. If you're someone who loves games but feels lost when it comes to creating them or breaking into the industry, I’d love to have a conversation with you. Your insights could be invaluable in shaping a program that might just be the opportunity you've been looking for. Please DM me or leave a comment if you're interested in sharing your story. And if you know someone who might benefit from this, I'd greatly appreciate it if you could share this post with them. Thank you for helping make this dream a reality! #GameDev #GameDesign #MarketResearch #GamingIndustry #GameDevelopment #Opportunity

Working in the games industry isn’t for everyone and that’s ok. Working in games is not perfectly magical. But what is the sentiment, the emotion, the reason we want to work in games? - We enjoy building things that we also enjoy consuming. - We enjoy that building process wrapped in new technical challenges. - We enjoy the creative aspects along with the technical aspects. Here’s the thing. You can do this with more than just games. Don’t limit yourself to your dreams. Your dreams are simply limited by your imagination. For some of you that will mean you want to pursue working in games and some of you will want to find an alternative. It’s also worth noting that you can swap back and forth, between working in games or not, throughout your life as you please. Stop making this process of getting into games a “If I don’t do this, I can’t be happy.” Or else you’ll be in for a really shitty ride, even when you do finally land that job. #gamesindustry #careercoaching #growth #mindset
