📣 Good news 📣 keeps trickling in from folks in my network who have been job-seeking! We love to see it! Shout out to Cherie for starting a new role this week, and I've got fingers and toes crossed for several folks who are deep in the interview process too! Based on all the conversations I've been having, I put together a little guide to help job seekers find #clarity around the crazy process of finding their next opportunity. I've realized that (especially with an unexpected career change) often we scramble to update our resume, start to throw it at whatever job posts we find, blindly bombard our network with "do you know anyone who's hiring?" and... we don't really know what we're looking for. If we start with painting a really clear picture of the role we actually want to have, it becomes so much easier to break through the noise of opportunities that aren't aligned, to ask our network for very specific things, and to find roles we actually want. Check out https://lnkd.in/eVYU76wK and drop your email in the form to grab the guide! No spam, I promise, just the good stuff!

Do you want to prove that you can do what you say you can, stand out in a job search, take advantage of career opportunities that come your way, and easily demonstrate why you deserve a raise or promotion? 🚀 Then you need a professional portfolio! 🎯 Your professional portfolio is a representation of who you are and what you can do, supported by tangible evidence, such as work samples, visual aids, certificates, etc. It can include any combination of the following items: 🌟 Resume 🌟 Cover letter 🌟 References 🌟 Letters of recommendation 🌟 Work samples 🌟 Awards and recognition 🌟 Certifications 🌟 Proof of training and education 🌟 Annual performance reviews 🌟 Personality profile summaries 🌟 Professional associations 🌟 Conferences attended 🌟 Volunteer work or community service 🌟 Photos and/or graphics to represent events, projects, organizing systems, etc. Whether you’re job-hunting or secure in your position, a professional portfolio is essential in today’s job market. You never know when a new opportunity will come up or unexpected layoffs will occur, so it’s important to be prepared for either scenario. A professional portfolio can help you do that! 💡 #MomentumMonday #ProveYourSkills

When I was first getting into the game dev space, I had sent hundreds of applications and barely gotten any people to respond to me on LinkedIn when reaching out directly. Eventually I was able to get 2 interviews and a 3rd potential interview in 1 month without directly applying to the job postings. What changed? I started being analytical about my process, the results of my methods. For example, which cold outreach message resulted in the most responses? Then I adjusted as I went just a little bit every day. It only took 1 month for the interviews to start coming in. So I'd say, be analytical, be intentional, be consistent and you will most likely land a job your interested in. Feel free to reach out if your interested in talking strategy, getting over a specific hurdle or anything else. I'd be glad to help! #jobsearch #jobseekers #tips

Resume tips are the "rearranging deck chairs on the Titanic" of today's tech job market. You know, I know it, everyone knows it. I try my hardest to avoid thought leadership on this platform but after a bunch of recent conversations with talented job seekers here are my $.02.. First, there are no easy solutions. But that's kind of the point. If you want to find a really great opportunity today you might consider.. 1.) Sitting down to clearly define what type of role, company, and customer you're looking to serve. All the extra minutes & hours spent here up front will pay dividends years later (hard) 2.) Find a script, format, bullet points or even deck to clearly communicate the value and tools you will bring to a team by giving value without expecting to receive any back (harder) 3.) Open up the aperture of opportunities you will get to see beyond a job board on the Internet by...scheduling coffees, going to events, reaching out cold or even creating content (hardest) It's not easy. There aren't a lot of magic tricks. But I'm confident if you do the work, you will be rewarded. Go call some old friends too. That never hurts. You're smarter than them anyway!

Helping Innovative Tech Companies, Marketing Agencies & PR Firms Hire Exceptional Marketing & PR Talent in the Boston-area & beyond | Ask me about our outplacement services
Welcome to week 1 of job search tips! ICYMI, every Monday for the next two months I’ll be sharing a new tool, technique, or philosophy to help you take your job search to the next level. So, for all those affected by the recent #techlayoffs or anyone who’s frustrated with navigating the current job market, feel free to follow along! This first one may seem overly straightforward, but it’s by far the most important step in any job search: Getting clear on what you’re looking for. Keeping an open mind when entering a job search is extremely important, BUT it’s equally important to have parameters in place to guide you towards your next amazing opportunity. I’ve spoken with many job seekers who don’t have a specific set of job search criteria in place as they’re afraid of parsing too finely. While it’s true that being overly selective can be a setback, a lack of clarity on what you’re looking for is even more detrimental! If you don’t have answers to some of the below, I would encourage you to spend more time reflecting and to keep coming back to these questions as you progress in your search. This will not only help you decide where to apply, but also what questions to ask during the interview, and ultimately what to do when you get to offer stage. The perfect job doesn’t exist, but there is one out there that’s a great fit for you. By getting clear on what you want and what you don’t, you’re one step closer to landing a new role! #jobsearch #outplacement #marketing #PR

Why Transparency in Hiring Matters: Fairness for Job Seekers Job hunting can be a frustrating experience, especially when you feel left in the dark throughout the process. Transparency in hiring is crucial for both employers and job seekers to build trust and ensure a fair shot for everyone involved. Here's why transparency matters: Benefits for Job Seekers: *Reduced wasted time and effort: Knowing clear expectations and timelines upfront allows candidates to focus their energy on relevant opportunities. *Informed decisions: Transparency about salary range, company culture, and the overall job description helps candidates make informed decisions about their fit with the role. *Improved candidate experience: Clear communication throughout the process reduces stress and fosters a sense of respect for candidates' time and efforts. *Fairness and reduced bias: Transparent hiring practices help mitigate unconscious bias and create a more level playing field for all qualified candidates. How Employers Can Achieve Transparency to Maintain a Industry Reputation: *Clear and honest job descriptions: Outline the role's responsibilities, requirements, and qualifications accurately. *Open communication: Provide regular updates on the application status and next steps. *Salary transparency: Disclose the salary range or pay rate for the position. *Feedback, even for rejections: Offer brief feedback, if possible, to help candidates improve their applications for future opportunities. *Diversity and inclusion efforts: Highlight your commitment to building a diverse workforce and outline any diversity initiatives. By prioritizing transparency, companies can attract top talent, build trust with potential employees, and create a more positive candidate experience. Remember, job seekers are also investing time and effort in the application process. Transparency shows respect for their contributions and fosters a more positive recruitment environment for everyone. Thanks Evan Herman ! #workforcematters #recruitmentfairness #talentacquisition101

Employers - You never want to end up in the news by acting like the employers in the below BBC News article this weekend. The interview always reflects the job, whether intentional or not. One poor candidate in this article was given a secret "test" by falsely being told her job interview was canceled. 🎲 You are rolling the dice if you like to play mind games with jobseekers. Gambling, board games, and other games of chance can be fun from time to time, and possibly even profitable. However, it is not wise to play games with candidates’ minds by leaving them uncertain, anxious, and doubtful. If you are playing with minds, you are playing with fire. When you play with fire, you will inevitably get burned. 🎲 A better approach is to be 100% open, honest, and transparent with candidates in regards to your expectations for the hire and what they can expect in the interview. HR.com has a few upcoming virtual events on 5/29, 6/28, & 7/25 if you would like to learn more on this topic of candidate experience. #candidateexperience #recruiting #hiring

Candidates sometimes (if they're lucky) get feedback from prospective employers about why they didn't get a role. Feedback could go both ways, though. I don't remember ever being asked for feedback after passing on a job offer or taking myself out of the process. I keep a spreadsheet when I'm job hunting and wanted to share a note I made about a major MMO publisher/developer I had interviewed with a few years ago. I used to play their game and was excited about working on it, but every contact I had with the team felt like an imposition. I couldn't imagine what that environment would have done to my energy and enthusiasm for the product. "Low energy boss. Not feeling particularly excited for the job. Have another interview on 8/11 with VP of Publishing Interview postponed for the 2nd time. Not sure they're really serious." Do you keep notes on interviews, even after you've accepted another job or been passed over? Do you share details of your experiences with friends in the industry? #jobhunting #interview #opentowork #gamesindustry
