Sterilising feeding equipment – a brand new guide in our infant feeding category https://lnkd.in/e9x5T2jn The author of this brand-new, fully illustrated guide is Zoe Meakin, Specialist Midwife and Tongue-tie Practitioner, Colchester Hospital. It has undergone double-blind peer review. Sterilising kills the majority of harmful bacteria, and it is important to sterilise all feeding equipment appropriately to protect babies from infections. The NHS recommends sterilising all equipment that is used for collecting, storing or feeding expressed breast milk or formula milk for babies under 12 months, as well as pacifiers (dummies) and any other items that a baby may put in their mouth. This guide describes different methods of sterilisation using cold water, boiled water, and steam, as well as microwave and ultraviolet sterilisation. Some parents may prefer one method to another. A competency checklist accompanies the guide. This can be used to assist with staff training and assessment. You can download the checklist using a button immediately above the guide, or view it online below the guide itself. #paediatrics #baby #breastfeeding #nursing

On a mission to improve flange fitting and pumping for parents and lactation professionals | IBCLC | Childbirth Educator | Speaker | Researcher
There is so much said about lactation and feeding babies. It's not all based in truth or evidence. Maybe at some point we thought it was true, so it was said...and then it just kept being said, when now we know it's NOT true. 🥛 Milk "comes in". 🚮 Pump and dump is required for alcohol and most medications. 🤱 Nurse ten minutes per side. 🍼 Burp the baby between breasts or after every ounce in a bottle. ⛽ 24mm or larger are the right flange sizes for everyone. ⚪ The breast is "empty" after nursing or pumping. 🧒 The older the baby gets, the more milk they will need to drink. 🥣 Introduce solid foods around 4 months of age. I could go on. All of the above aren't true. I'll be BUSTing myths during my upcoming MythBusting Webinars. It'll be fun. It'll be surprising. There may be debate. There can be nuances. But more people need to know about these myths so we can feel more confident in feeding babies. Whether you are a parent, parent-to-be, grandparent, childcare worker, birth or postpartum doula...you may learn something. Join the webinar. And let others know about it.

For many young children, early childcare and education (ECE) programs are the only source of nutritious meals and physical activity (PA); however, the COVID-19 pandemic led to program closures, restrictions, and changed practices. To examine changes in nutrition and PA-related best practices in ECE settings in Illinois from 2019, just prior to the pandemic, as compared to 2022. We also examined how changes over time varied by program type (ie, centers vs homes), Child and Adult Care Food Program (CACFP) status, and/or Head Start/Early Head Start status.
