This week, we mark MND Week which culminates on Global MND Awareness Day on Friday the 21st of June. MND is truly awful - it is terminal, highly disabling, and robs people of the ability to move, speak, and breathe. It's important to understand that MND doesn't just impact the person affected - it also has a significant impact on those around them - including those supporting them. To say that MND affects the MND Queensland team, would be a massive understatement! It's almost been 6 months since I joined Motor Neurone Disease Association of Queensland Inc. and during this time, I have frequently been left in total awe of the work this amazing team does day in/day out for people with MND in Queensland. The team work closely every single day with clients and their loved ones as they face the unimaginable. They form strong relationships and connections with their clients and their family/support network, and they celebrate the highs, and mourn the lows. They feel the losses of their clients deeply and its not uncommon to see our team in tears when taking a call that one of their clients has died. At time of writing, MND Queensland continues to be the ONLY state MND Association in Australia to not receive ongoing funding from its state government. This has significant adverse impacts on the support we can provide - especially to clients over 65 who aren't eligible for NDIS funding. We are currently 100% reliant on community support, grant funding, and donations to do what we do - your support in lobbying for change, and in financial contributions is so important and appreciated by us! (I've included the link below for our tax appeal!) Whilst we wait in hope that the QLD Government will see the value and importance in the work we do, our amazing team will continue to do all we can do, to ease the burden of this awful disease. All I can say is - I am truly lucky to be part of the MND Queensland team, and I know that the Queensland community is in safe, competent, and compassionate hands when they need it most. Until there is a cure, there is care. https://lnkd.in/g8-umhtT #mnd #community #makingadifference #impactfulcare #supportus

Executive Assistant; Marketing & Events Coordinator - Redmond Economic Development, Inc. at EDCO - Economic Development for Central Oregon
Being educated and aware of Stroke symptoms can help save a life.
For Hayden Homes , the impact of stroke is personal (their story via link below). In 2023 Hayden Homes presented a check to SAO for $100,000 representing a four-year commitment of funding to the organization. As a Stroke Awareness Oregon Board Member, our board and executive team are grateful to Hayden Homes, title sponsor, for their support of SAO helping bring Randy and Mary Travis to Central Oregon. “This event is a chance to raise awareness and much-needed funds to help prevent others from being impacted or losing their loved ones to the heartbreaking effects of stroke," said Deborah Flagan , vice president of community engagement and giving with Hayden Homes. I am trying to help a woman who was abused like I was in building her dream of a place for abused women to go and get "all" the help they need in one place. We asked a school district in Tucson that has empty and deteriorating schools if they would donate one for our building. The rooms would make great shelters for the women and their children until they could get on their own. The school district didn't even reply after a reminder letter. It was very discouraging as a simple "no" could have been their answer; however, they chose not to answer. Does anyone know how to get the interest in this worthwhile goal? She is already counseling women and has invested much money into this dream. She also has obtained the status of a non-profit and donation authorization for the "full value of the donation" from the IRS. The non-profit name is HM3 Advocate, Inc. (https://hm3.me). You can see that we also need someone to rebuild the website. I have asked an IT instructor at one of the high schools to use it as a class project but have not heard back from him. You can tell that I think "way outside the box" in solving problems! Others tell me to help already established non-profits. Her dream is what I would want as a formerly abused person--a one-stop for help. I have a lot of ideas to help her once we have the building. Any suggestions anyone might have would be a great help. We have asked a grant writer to step forward and donate their time to this worthwhile endeavor, but no one has come forward. I understand some businesses and corporations contribute small amounts yearly; however, I do not know how to find them. Your help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you for any and all responses. Board of Director Chairperson "CLCL Foundation" -- Choose love. Celebrate life. A Foundation for Youth & Families, Inc.
262 days with ZERO SAFE HAVE ACCESS for ALL youth in Ocean and Monmouth County, NJ (approx 162,813 10 to 19 year-olds without any local help). Newark is the ONLY option for youth under 18 - for many in Ocean County, this city is over an hour away. It DEMANDS YOUTH LEAVE their self-made support networks made up of peers, teachers and coaches. It FORCES YOUNG PEOPLE to leave their communities. And it INSISTS URBAN CITIES foot the bill for suburban youth. This is NOT the way evidence shows is best for addressing the mental, emotional, and behavioral needs of youth and families in need of support services. Youth have a FEDERAL RIGHT to runaway and stay safe. If we deny them local safe refuge, they are more at-risk of human and CHILD TRAFFICKING, offering SURVIVAL SEX, and a litany of negative outcomes. Help CLCL Foundation RESTORE SANCTUARY ACCESS and expand preventative services to thwart runaway and homeless youth. There is an evidence-based, trauma-informed, antiracist and inclusive way to provide services. Problems have SOLUTIONS - only TOGETHER can we have the wisdom and power to make the difference. Cumbria Children & Young People's Voluntary Sector Reference Group. I attended my first VSRG meeting this week on behalf of Angels...to be honest, I think I'm still recovering. Firstly, it was great to meet third sector colleagues, to hear about the incredible work that they're doing with children and young people throughout Cumbria. Yet, it was incredibly sad to hear that we are still not reaching enough young people, especially those with mental ill-health. I know from my work in local schools that it is a very real thing. For many of our young people, just getting into school is a massive challenge and they don't all make it. Is this a new epidemic born of the 21st century and if so is there a cure? I don't have the answers. I listen to the debates, some of them resonate, especially around social media - when did we all become keyboard warriors? I like to think that in the not too distant future, Angels will be able to work with some of these young people; listening, sharing their stories, building resilience and telling their truths. In the meantime, my prayers are for them, Angels and my colleagues as we all continue just trying to put one foot in front of the other.

Ahead of the General Election on the 4th of July, it is crucial that the needs of babies, children and young people are prioritised. They deserve safer, happier and healthier childhoods and more equal access to opportunities. All political leaders must now use their manifestos to set out plans to tackle child poverty, provide more support for young people’s mental health and wellbeing, and invest in children’s social care. We have a crucial opportunity to put children's concerns and experiences at the centre of decision making – to bring children to the table. We look forward to working with political parties as they harness this opportunity. We also call on party leaders to take the ground-breaking step of participating in a televised debate focussed on children and young people. What better way to show that they value children and young people than to include them in these key conversations? Let's have Children at the Table in transforming their lives. Break the Silence is grateful for the crucial support it receives from SOCAS Fund. This fund, generously provided by the Scottish Government and supported by Inspiring Scotland, plays a pivotal role in positively impacting the lives of those who have experienced sexual trauma. SOCAS Fund focuses on several key outcomes, all geared towards enhancing the support system of individuals. Firstly, there is an emphasis on increasing support for survivors, facilitating their journey toward recovery from the effects of childhood abuse. The fund also aims to elevate the quality of support provided to adult survivors, fostering better recovery outcomes and increased resilience. SOCAS Fund actively works towards strengthening the survivor support sector through collaborative efforts among third sector providers and statutory services. Let's come together to celebrate the positive change that SOCAS Fund is bringing to the lives of survivors! Their support is pivotal to the work we do. Together, we can contribute to creating a world where survivors experience the highest attainable standard of living, health, well-being, and family life. Join the movement, spread awareness, and let's break the silence together! #breakthesilence #CentreOfExcellence
