Workers at Amazon's Birmingham Warehouse Set to Strike, Amplifying Calls for Improved Pay and Labour Conditions 🚨 Workers at Amazon's new Birmingham site are set to strike over pay and conditions, says GMB union. Up to 100 staff at the fulfilment centre are expected to participate in the strike scheduled for January 25. This follows a similar action at Amazon's Coventry warehouse a year ago. The GMB aims to raise awareness and recruit more supporters to address concerns over recognition and what they term as "poverty pay." The industrial dispute with Amazon is intensifying, with a call for fair pay and improved working conditions. https://lnkd.in/emMM7C2x #AmazonStrike #WorkersRights #FairPay #LabourConditions #GMBUnion #AmazonProtest #CorporateAccountability #IndustrialAction #BirminghamWarehouse #UKLabourIssues #WorkplaceJustice #LabourNews #EmployeeEmpowerment #TradeUnions #EconomicFairness #SolidarityInLabour #GMBWorkers #LabourMovement 🛒✊

This article highlights the deteriorating relationship between Amazon and labor unions and the escalation of a strike by delivery drivers in California to become the largest Amazon strike in U.S. history. Members of Teamsters Local 396 have extended their strike to Amazon's LAX5 warehouse in Buena Park, California, in protest of the company's reported failure to honor a new contract and its termination of newly organized workers. The strike has now expanded into 10 states and has had little impact on Amazon's stock, which has actually seen a 44% appreciation since the strike began in June 2023. The discrepancy regarding the employment status of the striking drivers raises important legal and ethical concerns. This issue is important to watch, given its potential implications for Amazon's labor practices and corporate reputation.

We are continuing to see a much more positive leaning towards unions in today's workforce. Overwhelming majority wins to unionize (and in this case merge with the Teamsters). It has to make you wonder, what are current employers doing or not doing to help create these conditions? One theory we have is transparency. Collective bargaining agreements with pay schedules are fully transparent. And if employees think their company isn't being forthcoming, unionization seems like a good strategy. Maybe the fear of unionizing will be the final catalyst to a new wave of transparent policies and systems. That wouldn't be a bad thing, right? #unionization #teamsters #amazon #transparency https://loom.ly/z4POyk0

"More than 100 Amazon warehouse workers in San Francisco have asked the company to voluntarily recognize their new union with the Teamsters, a move that experts said is unlikely to yield a contract deal without additional government or community pressure." The increasing involvement of the Teamsters in Amazon's operations adds a lot of weight to Amazon employees efforts to organize... "About 5,500 Amazon workers with the independent Amazon Labor Union in Staten Island, N.Y., which struggled to get recognized by the company, voted this summer to join forces with the International Brotherhood of Teamsters. The union, which has 1.3 million members in the U.S., Canada and Puerto Rico, said hundreds of Amazon drivers in Queens, N.Y., also officially joined their ranks last week." #CSCCSCM #unions #Teamsters #Amazon #labor #bargaining #lastmile #homedelivery #ecommerce #supplychain #logistics

""Organizing workers is a different skill than administering a union"" A great quote from the former National Labor Relations Board Chair, and good advice for anyone trying to stand up any sort of group. And I speak from experience. In this case we're talking about the Amazon Labor Union. "The union's troubles since its victory in early 2022 illustrate the difficult path that grassroots organizers face. They also represent a different outcome than what activists hoped for—a wave of other warehouses following the lead set by New York workers." Initial fervor in any situation usually dwindles, and in this case, the post-victory reality has set in. Dissent in the union's leadership, lack of donations and financial support, high turnover of Amazon workers, and a host of other normal business-y issues are taking their toll. "Companies have advantages in unionization contests, including the ability to hold mandatory meetings and have more accurate information about their workforce than any union has, according to labor researchers. Workers also must generally organize at one facility or store at a time." #CSCCSCM #unions #labor #organization #employeerights #amazon #NLRB #supplychain #logistics

Did you know Amazon was caught in another pickle? Amazon hit with US labor board complaint over 'joint employment' of drivers The National Labor Relations Board (NLRB) has filed a complaint against Amazon, alleging that the company illegally refused to negotiate with a union representing drivers from the contractor Battle Tested Strategies (BTS). The NLRB claims Amazon is a "joint employer" of these drivers and employed tactics to discourage union activities after they successfully unionized with the International Brotherhood of Teamsters. The complaint follows Amazon's termination of its contract with BTS without prior bargaining, which the NLRB asserts violates federal labor laws. Amazon has denied the allegations, asserting it lacks sufficient control over the drivers' working conditions to be deemed a joint employer. The case is set to be heard by an administrative judge in Los Angeles in March. #amazon #battle #nlrb #bts #workcondition #laborboard #laborrelations #laborlaws #laborlaw #losangel #filedacomplaint #federallaborlaw #pickle #labor #complaint #employment #jobs #drivers #driver #national #relations #businesspassion #union #contractor #employer #tactics #tactic #activities #activity #international
