I recently read one of the whitepapers we have at Sano Genetics on the "𝗘𝘃𝗼𝗹𝘃𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗿𝗼𝗹𝗲 𝗼𝗳 𝗽𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗲𝗻𝘁𝘀 𝗶𝗻 𝗱𝗿𝘂𝗴 𝗱𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗹𝗼𝗽𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁t", a critical topic at the forefront of precision medicine. The paper outlines a paradigm shift in research, emphasising four key areas that are transforming how we approach drug development. 𝘾𝙤-𝙘𝙧𝙚𝙖𝙩𝙞𝙤𝙣 𝙤𝙛 𝙧𝙚𝙨𝙚𝙖𝙧𝙘𝙝: Patients are not just participants but partners in research, helping shape trials and outcomes that reflect their true needs. 𝘿𝙚𝙘𝙚𝙣𝙩𝙧𝙖𝙡𝙞𝙨𝙚𝙙 𝙘𝙡𝙞𝙣𝙞𝙘𝙖𝙡 𝙩𝙧𝙞𝙖𝙡𝙨: Supported by digital health technologies, these trials are more accessible than ever, enabling participation without the limits imposed by geography or socio-economic status. 𝘼𝙙𝙫𝙤𝙘𝙖𝙘𝙮 𝙖𝙣𝙙 𝙥𝙤𝙡𝙞𝙘𝙮 𝙞𝙣𝙛𝙡𝙪𝙚𝙣𝙘𝙚: As patient advocacy groups grow stronger, they're reshaping policies to ensure faster and more inclusive access to therapies. 𝙋𝙖𝙩𝙞𝙚𝙣𝙩-𝙜𝙚𝙣𝙚𝙧𝙖𝙩𝙚𝙙 𝙙𝙖𝙩𝙖: The increasing use of apps and online platforms for health data collection is empowering patients to directly influence research and treatment approaches. The mood-music emanating from the TBI and from central government is, for me, heartening. I have witnessed first-hand for 30 years the counterproductive friction, resistance and the costs - in terms of both population health outcomes and the UK economy - to research and development from using resources such as anonymous, NHS routine data (real world data [RWD]). Hopefully, we are at an inflection point and things will now change; and quickly. However, it is essential that people in the public sector and the university sector recognise that this should be driven by the private sector, at least in a public-private partnership. The public sector, the university sector, and wider society in turn then benefit from innovation, and wealth & job creation. Fingers crossed!
Technological advancements will revolutionise the future of medicine – from accelerating drug discovery to providing earlier diagnosis of chronic diseases, advancing genomic sequencing and driving essential R&D efforts. Grateful to have shared the stage with Steffanie Strathdee and Vincent Racaniello a few weeks ago at #SXSW. Here are three messages I am sharing following our #MedicinesGoViral conversation: 1. Viruses historically have been instruments of harm, but we now know they can be leveraged to do some real good in our world as recent development of cell/gene and phage therapies has shown. 2. We need to increase accessibility. There's plenty of room for cell/gene therapies to expand capacity and reduce complexity for broader access to life-saving treatments. 3. Collaboration across the healthcare ecosystem is key to keeping the world (including public policymakers and the #biotech industry) focused on #drugresistance. You can listen to the full conversation here.

As the dust settles in Brussels and stirs elsewhere, questions about the future arise. Healthcare systems face challenges, equity of access to innovation is not a reality for all European patients, and long diagnostic journeys persist. It's crucial to prioritize #genomics in Europe. The Illumina Europe Government Affairs team convened in Brussels to assess recent EU elections, analyze the environment ahead of elections in France and the UK, and strategize for the coming years. Committed to advancing genomics, we aim to drive impactful changes for patients, healthcare professionals, industry, and research ecosystems. #patientfirst #genomics #innovation #illuminaproud #dreamteam Cécile Astuguevieille Maximilian Marks Tim Bennett Maria Vergara Federico Vittorio Pisani

Mario Draghi’s report ordered by Ursula von der Leyen about the future of European competitiveness is a titanic work providing an ocean of informative data about each key sectors of economy. Thanks Olivier Gosset and L'Echo for stimulating our reflection on this report and for allowing expression of critical analysis. Concerning the pharma industry my preferred proposal is doubtlessly proposal #1 of the report :⭐Maximize the impact of the EU Health Data Space, e.g. by facilitating access to and the sharing of electronic health records, leveraging the @DARWIN EU® network and scaling up genome sequencing capacities⭐, the latest referring to the Beyond 1 Million Genomes B1MG Project. With a population of 450 million, Europe holds immense potential to produce big health data, enabling a dramatic boost in pharma R&D productivity through broader and deeper exploration of disease biology and therapeutic molecule biochemistry. Quantum Biospace by BVI.EU, along with its Studio, Quantum BioVenture Studio, is fully committed to taking every possible step at our level to help make this vision a reality. 🚀 Discover the full analysis in L'Echo Week-End edition here : https://lnkd.in/eJit2AuW Picture credit to : Valentin Bianchi. pharma.be | Belgian Health Data Agency | EFPIA - European Federation of Pharmaceutical Industries and Associations | BioWin | BW2030 | invest.bw | European Medicines Agency | Xavier Bastin | Stephane Burton | Jean-Christophe Renauld | ELIXIR
