The future of construction depends on our ability to work together. The challenge is significant, but the rewards are even greater — according to Terry Stocks in the latest of our series of articles with Building Magazine. One thing I really like is seeing brilliant projects in fantastic locations. That includes TBC.London for FORE Partnership next to Tower Bridge. This intricate remodelling of a 1980s-built structure to create a modern Net Zero workspace is a fantastic template for sustainable construction. One example is the approach to embodied carbon. By retaining much of the existing structure, it will save 6,365 tonnes of CO2 from being unnecessarily emitted during the construction process. Also, taking a circular economy approach to raw materials has seen the reuse of 20 tonnes of 1930s steel beams from the former House of Fraser department store on Oxford Street, saving an estimated 48 tonnes of CO2 compared to using new steelwork. It’s also the first UK project to reuse steel from a pre-1940s building, part of a strategy that sees 20% of the required steel coming from a reclaimed source, with the remaining steel containing a minimum of 56% recycled content. It was a privilege to hear such amazing facts when I join Basil Demeroutis from FORE for a visit along with Cristina Lago and Matt Adams MCIOB to see how TBC.London is shaping up ready for an autumn completion. https://lnkd.in/gd3rGmS4

Sustainable renovation Prioritizing renovation and transformation over building new plays a vital role in decarbonizing the construction sector and its gaining momentum.
