In my sustainability research, I'm giving thought to the potential within circular economic models. By reevaluating what we currently view as "waste," might we uncover overlooked ways to strengthen health systems and steward raw materials? For example, rigorous sterilization could allow multiple safe uses of some equipment. Advanced recycling could recover scarce elements from e-waste. And biodegradable alternatives increasingly replace problematic plastics. Change often happens gradually, through open-minded sharing of ideas. I aim to better understand diverse stakeholder perspectives on these emerging topics. Our common goal is serving communities in environmentally-sensitive ways. There may be untapped circular synergies across industries if we explore challenges and possible solutions together. Our planet's well-being matters deeply to resilient public health.
