This marks the first successful demonstration of quantum internet technology in a real-world, urban environment. Utilizing a technique known as photon-mediated entanglement, data was transmitted over a 35 km optical fiber loop spanning Cambridge, Somerville, Watertown, and Boston.

This year marks the beginning of the Age of Light within computer technology. Photonics has proven itself as the superior paradigm for delving into ‘quantum computing’ while simultaneously being able to still use our existing digital infrastructure.
