From the archives... I’m sure some are tired of hearing me say this, but government schooling is not failing in the sense that it is accomplishing the intended goal of its architects (Mann, Dewey, etc.). It is failing students by deceiving them into thinking they are being educated, when in fact they are only being schooled. The only true education is one that teaches a student how to learn, so that all true learning becomes self-education. 34. That is the average class size for a high school in Nevada according to the National Center for Education Statistics. How can a teacher effectively teach each student equitably in a class that large? I don't think they can. One of the reasons we began Lutheran Neighborhood Schools is to address the class size problem. At our schools each class has 10 students. Our teachers have the time, space, and resources to teach those 10 students. We're rethinking the accepted norms about education. This is just the beginning.
