Today, I wanted to share a list of a few resources for speech therapists. This list is something that I have put together for myself to get a better understanding of what #Speechies do on a daily basis, as well as where they might find: new positions, session materials, lesson plan ideas, updates in the field, etc. 1. The Stepping Stones Group, LLC - of course I am including the company that I work for! We offer school-based positions nationwide, both in person and virtual, for any SLPs looking for their next adventure, as well as a HUGE clinical management team backing our clinicians in the field. 2. Super Duper Publications - an excellent resource for finding the session materials you need, including free resources, to cover all the kiddos on your caseload! 3. Lakeshore Learning Materials - another amazing resource to find whatever materials you may need for your sessions, including sensory materials, manipulatives, games, and even STEM related materials! 4. Walt Fritz, PT - has created and shared many amazing resources related to speech therapy, specifically manual therapy. 5. SpeechPathology.com - an excellent resource for continued professional development and getting through those needed CEUs! 6. Barbara Fernandes - founder of Smarty Ears - has some truly noteworthy posts about the industry, updates, and of course, advancements with the tech integrations being used by SLPs! https://lnkd.in/gxCcmAtQ Cognitive dissonance is a state of having conflicting feelings or beliefs.  In an article called “The Psychological Dimensions of Hearing Healthcare: Audiology is More Than Just Diagnoses and Devices” by Bill Hodgetts, PhD, (Canadian Audiologist, Vol 11, Issue 3, 2024), he said, “Resolving a patient’s cognitive dissonance is a huge part of our job.” I wanted to bring this to life in a couple of short videos. In Part 1, there are conflicting emotions around the denial of hearing loss and stigma perception. After creating the videos, I learned something more about cognitive dissonance. I realized that it might be helpful to look at cognitive dissonance as different parts of ourselves expressing what they think. Which part of ourselves comes forward? It will depend on many factors. "Addressing cognitive dissonance in audiology involves education, counseling, and support to help individuals reconcile conflicting beliefs and make informed decisions." ~ B. Hodgetts

What I am going to say is going to disappoint many people: I've had lots of interest in APD work from audiometrists and hearing aid dispensers/specialists who would like to do auditory processing testing and treatment and, unfortunately, this is not in the scope of practice for audiometrists/HIS in most countries. (I have edited this to remove the specific countries I had listed given that I teach an international course.) For that reason, I cannot accept anyone who isn't an audiologist or SLP into my online courses. What these colleagues can do, though, is help us identify clients with reflags and make referrals to their audiology colleagues for testing or to audiologists or speech-language pathologists for treatment. 💪 No Progress Without Practice! I've been in physical therapy for months now, working on fixing an issue I've had for years. I go every week and try to do my exercises every day... well, most days! 😅 Last week, I went back to my PT after traveling and attending a conference, and I hadn't done my exercises a single time all week. I felt completely out of my routine and time-starved. It would be crazy for me to expect any progress, right? But I bet PTs see this all the time: patients showing up week after week expecting improvement without putting in the work between appointments. This got me thinking about my own work teaching drawing and sketchnoting. The truth is, there's no substitute for practice. Yet, there's always a student or two searching for a shortcut or hack. I wish I could say you can master drawing and sketchnoting by following along once, but the reality is you need to practice what you learn over and over until it sticks. Our brains need repetition to cement neural pathways and make learning a habit. 💪 Consider this your reminder to put in the practice! Have you ever struggled to keep up with a routine?
