🚀 Exciting times ahead! Last week, we kicked off the QuantumIRES project at the Technology Campus Steinfurt, FH Münster. The event was a fantastic opportunity to connect with our project partners, present initial results and ideas, and plan our next steps. We're thrilled about the collaborative journey ahead! 🔍 About QuantumIRES: Our primary goal is to develop a lossless, purely optically connected quantum current measurement system, combined with machine learning methods. This innovation will be used to monitor medium-voltage lines and power converters for grid-connected batteries and renewable energies. 💡 Why It Matters: This cutting-edge research, part of the CETPartnership Joint Call 2022 and co-funded by the European Commission EU Funds, aims to revolutionize energy monitoring and management, driving us closer to a sustainable future. In March, Flanders organized the Flanders Technology & Innovation (FTI) festival to showcase the fascinating world of groundbreaking technologies such as AI, energy transition, and game technology. We recently participated in the BATTERY 2030+ Annual Conference in Grenoble and had a fantastic time reconnecting with old collaborators from CEA-Liten and visiting their Battery and Modelling labs. Thank you so much for organizing this event. Key Learnings: - @Peter Bruce (Univ. Oxford) discussed the critical role of oxygen redox in lithium-rich layered and disordered rocksalt cathodes. - Monika Curto Fuentes (VDI/VDE) provided insights into the global battery landscape, with a focus on the Korean and Japanese ecosystems. - The importance of self-healing materials was highlighted by projects like HEALING BAT and SALAMANDER Project. - Digitization in the battery value chain was emphasized through initiatives like BIGMAP, Batman, and Openstorm. At Leitat, our expertise in metal recovery, pCAM, CAM, and digitization in the battery value chain through some of our projects like DigiCell Project, BatrawProjectEU , and STREAMS Project is perfectly aligned with the Vision of the Battery2030+ framework. An important step forward in undestanding battery 🔋 degration effects has just been 📢 published 📜 in the Royal Society of Chemistry's journal Energy and Environmental Science. A team bringing #industry and academia together used #neutron and #Xray imaging to identify a concrete effect that degrades performance. Surprisingly, this particular effect does not come with age: it is there since the first time the battery is put to work. Great example of battery research showing the power of combining different views: combining state-of the-art neutrons and X-rays techniques in a really integrated way in data taking, analysis & interpretation.
