Talk Show Host The Douglas Coleman Show & The Douglas Coleman Show VE (Video Edition) at DJC Music and Productions
Ron Voller Ron Voller is the author of The Muleskinner and the Stars (Springer 2015), and Hubble, Humason and the Big Bang (Springer Praxis 2021). He is working on his third book, “Bang! Goes the Universe”, on cosmic origins and our understanding of them. Voller has a podcast on cosmic origins and is executive producing a documentary about a disabled Michigan law student and his mission to make 24/7 care affordable across the economic spectrum. In 1921, 30-year-old Milton Humason worked as a janitor at the Mount Wilson Observatory. At 40, he was known as the greatest astronomical observer of the 20th century and co-discovered the Big Bang Theory with Edwin Hubble (inventor of the Hubble telescope). --Why is the Big Bang theory “the theory of everything”? --What was the visual disability that enabled Humason to become the best photographer of distant galaxies in the world? --What special skills did Humason possess that made the other astronomers realize he was the best? --Why did the other astronomers take to Humason, the uneducated janitor, and teach him to use telescopes? --What prompted Edwin Hubble to use his spectacular new telescope to see if Einstein was right or not? The more we explore the quantum realm, the more we realize that our universe is built on layers of complexity that challenge our fundamental understanding of reality. Every new discovery, whether it's a well-established fermion or a speculative entity like the 'Ferdon,' pushes the boundaries of what we know and invites us to question the very fabric of existence.

The Strauss-Howe generation theory describes a recurrent cycle of same-aged groups with specific behavior patterns that change every 20 years. According to this theory, an 80-year cycle is crucial, when every four generations is associated to a crisis that impacts the ongoing social order and creates a new one. https://lnkd.in/edpN92ys In 1997, historians Neil Howe and William Strauss introduced the captivating concept of "The Fourth Turning," proposing that history follows cyclical patterns, with each cycle lasting 80 years and divided into four 20-year phases, each linked to a distinct generation and societal role.
We Are In A "FOURTH TURNING," What Does That Mean?

Check this out. It's basically an ad for an AI company, Runway, my favorite AI video platform. Which I used quite a lot on my award winning music video "Black Balloon". (Check out my previous post). This video was internally produced by them. (I didn't work on it). But I follow the people at Runway on social media. They have a Film Festival. And a hard copy magazine. They're dedicated to using AI as a creative tool. They program their software with artists in mind. Image to video. Video to video. Plus tools to manipulate & animate that footage after you make it. It is NOT just prompts. Please watch this video with an open mind. No matter what you think of AI, the fact is it's a tool. Like any other. It has issues (copyright, taking jobs etc). Just like sampling did back in the day. All that said, I think Runway has a good point to make here. Tell me if you agree. Feel free to comment & debate. Please keep it civil or I'll just delete it. https://lnkd.in/ebyg5rs2

As someone who studied printmaking, I'm glad the printing press made the cut. :) It's also nice that this explainer video stops at the internet, and let us *discuss* without telling us the answer. I mean how many iterations of tech in storytelling will we see in our lifetime? Are diffusion models just one big footnote in the larger story of a (re)sampling culture? Are we moving so fast that we stack disruptive revolutions on top of one another: game engines on top of text to video, on top of generative 3D, on top of differential rendering? Is generative voice and music made of the same ball of wax, or a new one? I think it's relevant that previous modes of "new media" required shipping new hardware, new physical gadgets to get it done. (AR glasses get their shout out here) But really I suspect that the next few disruptive media revolutions will all come fast, because they are all software advances, piggybacking on generative models for media. Buckle up!
