Today's event in Zagreb, organized by the Radicalisation Awareness Network (RAN), delved into the crucial topic of Online P/CVE Interventions, focusing on the vital services provided online in combating extremism and radicalization. In an increasingly digital world, where the internet serves as a primary platform for the dissemination of extremist ideologies, addressing this issue was paramount. The agenda was designed to explore the various services and interventions available online to counter extremism effectively. Sessions covered a wide array of topics, from understanding the current landscape to examining innovative approaches and technological advancements in this field. Participants engaged in discussions aimed at assessing the challenges faced in providing online interventions and identifying practical solutions to overcome them. Moreover, the event showcased inspiring examples of successful online interventions, offering valuable lessons and insights into what works in practice. These examples served not only to motivate but also to inform and guide future efforts in combating online radicalization. By bringing together practitioners, RAN's event facilitated collaboration and knowledge-sharing, strengthening our collective ability to tackle the complex challenges of extremism in the digital sphere. Awesome video, must watch: https://lnkd.in/gtPHuhZy The main point I want to zoom into is the possibility of using the obligatory Zakat, for which we know there are billions of dollars of, to invest in institutions for the betterment of the Ummah. Whether it be improving the quality of education, improving the quality of skills, to pour money into innovative ideas created by Muslims, etc. This is to make sure that the Ummah's representation around the world is greater. In essence Zakat is not only used to pick people up, but rather to help accelerate people/institutions that are making a difference.

Unfortunately all nice words, but the carpet bombing is continuing, we need action! There is no future for Israel (and similarly for Palestine) based on the narrative of its radicals..... anyone who wants to claim territory exclusively for themselves will only find eternal war, violence and destruction, whereas the moderates at both sides hold the key to peace by non-violent interaction and dialog as equals. Since Gaza has been carpet bombed, chances on a two-state solution have become minimal. The only way out of the conflict is thus to learn to coexist as equals and to share the country as one-state. There is in principle space for all (https://lnkd.in/dGTAtn6V , interesting data and interesting plan for the return of all displaced Palestinians). Practically, it means in my opinion to go back to the times of Canaan and establish (democratic) autonomous communities and spread them over the entire territory of Canaan. These autonomous communities can coexist and come together in a confederation of communities, sharing the country. There is space for all cultural identities this way. New article: "More than a Metaphor: The Central Role of Social Media Studies for Tackling Antisemitism" I have written an article on the urgent necessity of high-quality social media studies. This research is essential to understand and counter the immense waves of societal radicalization and the normalization of antisemitic hate speech, both now and in the future. It has become clear to me that existing strategies insufficiently examine the emerging societal fractures and the immediate danger faced by Jewish and other communities worldwide.   In the article, we have compiled arguments to drive substantial methodological enhancements. Without adopting a more comprehensive approach, we run the risk of fostering biases that impede our capacity to effectively combat the (sometimes subtle) mainstreaming of demonization and exclusion across diverse online milieus.   This very knowledge is crucial for developing effective counterstrategies. Tackling this longstanding problem requires contributions from diverse disciplines, combining science and expertise to form a comprehensive approach. However, there's presently a dearth of clear political directives and supportive frameworks to consistently and sustainably confront this challenge – despite the fact that online trends will inevitably shape the trajectory of democracy and society in the future.
