Abl's Head of R&D, Amara Humphry, and her team are expanding the Abl platform and building a suite of tools specifically for district leaders to assess their academic ROI. As districts across the country navigate budget deficits while maintaining a focus on improving student outcomes, understanding the impact of your current academic programming has never been more important. These tools identify which course-taking patterns align with college completion, reveal the cost to your district when students miss these critical courses, and highlight actionable opportunities for improvement. For example, Round Rock ISD saved $4M by reallocating teaching resources and Portland Public Schools increased college readiness for African American students by 18 percentage points by strategically scheduling courses, teachers, and students. We design with outcomes in mind. And we measure what we treasure - student learning. Teachers have enough on their plates. As we lighten their load, teachers are able to respond to students’ needs in the way that only they can. Time & Precision. The strategic imperative to deliver more enrollment with less (less marketing, less scholarship and less counselors) is not a trend that is going away in higher ed enrollment management. Getting more from the team also does not have to mean working 2x as many hours for half the pay with 5 times the applicant volume. What it does involve, however, is a vision and commitment to modernizing the core processes of enrollment management for the benefit of the institution, admissions team and the prospective student. One aspect of this is the delivery of more efficient and effective use of time and increased enrollment precision through a much deeper understanding of enrollment data, applicant behaviors and understanding of consumer decision theory. How does a small college deliver on this from a practical standpoint? I'm looking forward to Ryan O'Dell talk about how what he's done at Edgewood College!
