🚨 Watch out, Hamilton #homeowners! 🐿️ Squirrels can be a real nuisance and cause damage to your property. They're known for chewing on wires and other materials, which can be costly to repair. To keep #squirrels away, seal any holes or gaps in your home's exterior and trim back tree branches too close to your roof. If you spot squirrels in your yard, deter them by using motion-activated lights or sprinklers, or try squirrel-proof bird feeders. What Marin is Doing to Prevent Wildfires ⬇️ We hear a lot about the danger of fires in our heavily wooded county, but not so much about prevention. The opposite is true. The Marin Wildlife Prevention Authority (MWPA) is deeply involved in protecting homes throughout the county. The Greater Ross Valley Shaded Fuel Break Project is protecting homes from Fairfax to Corte Madera by reducing wildfire fuel in about 1,300 acres, from Fairfax through Corte Madera. Crews are removing flammable plants adjacent to homes in a 200-300 foot-wide path covering 38 miles from Woodacre to Corte Madera. This includes removing invasive non-native plants, like French broom, small diameter trees, dead and downed trees and branches, and dry, non-native grasses. The map here shows in red and yellow some of this path at the Corte Madera-Tiburon end of the project. This is only part of the work. There are more projects, like thinning 145-acres of highly flammable eucalyptus trees in San Rafael and Sn Anselmo. October 1 will be the ribbon cutting ceremony hosted by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Rock Island District, and the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service celebrating completion of the Upper Mississippi River Restoration #UMRR Beaver Island Habitat Rehabilitation and Enhancement Project The Beaver Island Habitat Rehabilitation and Enhancement Project is located in Pool 14 of the Upper Mississippi River near the southern portion of Clinton, Iowa. The project lands, which include 1,678 acres of interconnected backwaters, secondary channels, wetlands and floodplain habitat, are federally owned and part of the Upper Mississippi River National Wildlife and Fish Refuge. The goals of the project were to restore and protect aquatic, wetland and floodplain forest habitats on and around Beaver Island by increasing year-around aquatic habitat diversity, diversifying floodplain forest habitat, and increasing the structure and function of side channel habitat.

OH DEER! Deer are especially active in the fall — particularly from mid-October through November — during their mating season. Deer are most active during sunrise and sunset. Deer, and other wildlife, are most active during prime commuting hours, roughly from 5 to 8 a.m. and 5 to 8 p.m. Pay attention to deer crossing signs. Take precautions when driving at night If there is no oncoming traffic, turn on your high beams: You’ll not only be able to see clearer, but you’ll have a greater chance of spotting a deer from a distance. Do not swerve to avoid a deer collision. By swerving you put yourself at risk for a worse collision with another vehicle or running off the road. Stay in your lane and try to slow down.
