🗺️ Constituency areas in our region have changed. The Boundary Commission for England undertook a national review of constituency boundaries to try to make constituencies roughly equal in size, in terms of the number of voters living in them. 📍 To find out more about new boundaries in East Riding, click here: https://lnkd.in/e9JSaF6E

In the wake of the political #yearofchange we are currently having, I'd like to put forward an idea for a new parliamentary system in NZ. Similar to the existing Westminster System, we reintroduce an elected Upper House called the 'Future House'. The responsibility of the 'Future House' is to look after the needs of New Zealander 50-100 years in the future. They can only make legislation, policy, and decisions that are in the best interests of future generations. The existing house of representatives (reduced in size) has responsibility to look after the needs of the present. They can only make legislation, policy, and decisions that are in the best interests of the people of today. For either house to pass a piece of legislation etc. it must pass through the other house to make sure it is in the best interests of their respective 'constituents'. Thus we become a nation that considers the needs of the present without compromising the needs of the future.... whatever your polical views

The exclusionary trend persisted on May 13th as I found myself sidelined once more from the debate organized by More Homes Mississauga (MHM), an unincorporated group lacking clear leadership and legal transparency. Watch the video I recorded about that: https://lnkd.in/g3pPCcyS. Notably, this debate showcased only a select few candidates: Alvin Tedjo, Carolyn Parrish, and Dipika Damerla. Such discriminatory practices not only undercut the democratic process but also run counter to the Municipal Elections Act ("MEA") and the Charter of Rights. In response, I've taken proactive steps by drafting a letter to the Elections Office at Mississauga Civic Centre and sending an email to the University of Toronto, urging them to take decisive actions. These measures include, among others, halting the scheduled debates and holding accountable those who flout electoral laws and principles of fairness. It's crucial that the electoral process maintains inclusivity and transparency, ensuring all candidates enjoy equal opportunities to connect with voters and present their platforms. The British political system has been described as ‘elected dictatorship’ (Lord Hailsham). With a workable majority, a government can, subject to international obligations, do what it likes (AV Dicey). And it can abrogate those international obligations too. With its majority Labour can do what it chooses. Its power is, theoretically, unlimited. And Labour got 33.7% of the vote. And the turnout was 60%. So a government with unlimited powers over the future of this country was elected by 20% of registered voters. It’s an uncomfortable fact. One that brings out understandable arguments for proportional representation and enforced voting. But there’s another aspect to this; alienation. Democracy isn’t a pencil mark on a piece of paper every five years, it is the active involvement of citizens in shaping their own lives and communities. Politics must stop being seen as something done by others that happens to us. #britishgeneralelection #politics #constitution

British Politics needs a new approach to be able to evolve, currently it is stuck in an old paradigm that is protecting and serving the oligarchs instead of the people. Here is a petition for political reform, replace the House of Lords with the House of Citizens #ukpolitics #GB #politicsforpeople #democracy #Britishconstitiont https://lnkd.in/eYfTQkf8

From door knocking on over 23,000 homes, I have heard your message loud and clear. The political parties have lost their way and they are no longer serving our interests. To learn more visit: abimcguire.co.uk/manifesto I will introduce a new way of working in Parliament that will mean we can actually achieve things: 1. A new way I will promote a new way that involves respect, listening and healthy debate in Parliament to enable us to reach decisions that best serve our collective society. 2. Diverse political representation I will advocate for diverse political representation in Parliament for a better future. 3. Culture Change in Parliament I will initiate a culture shift in Parliament where we update our practices so we have an environment that is fit for purpose and can actually achieve good things. 4. Cross-Party Working I will encourage cross-party working and collaboration, so we are able to debate healthily without the influence of party politics to make laws that are fit for purpose. 5. A Present MP I promise to be a present MP. I will work in all of the areas in our constituency and continue to develop my relationships with and work alongside parish, town, city and unitary councillors, whichever party they represent. #generalelection2024 #GE2024 #PeopleBeforeParty #vote #voteindependent #independentsday #wells #shepton #cheddar #abi #ukelection #election #yatton #wedmore #pilton #wooky #StandwithAbi #axbridge #Sheptonmallet #uk #viral #ukpolitics #british #new #news #fyp #politics #fy #somerset

Do you want more of the same or are you ready to vote for change? We haven’t elected an independent to the ACT Legislative Assembly in 26 years. It’s time to break the drought. A vote for any of the three major parties is a vote for the status quo, where ‘the optics’ are prioritised over taking real action. It’s a vote for the traditional political system, where what’s best for the party is put ahead of what’s best for our community. And it’s a vote for the standard way of doing things, where political self interest keeps decision-makers from being held to account. Independents all across the country are challenging the status quo and proving that things can be done differently. In five weeks, we have an opportunity to bring the independent movement to local politics. If you want your vote to create positive change, vote independent on October 19. 👉 Learn more and subscribe for updates at https://lnkd.in/g4jg5r9k Share this video with someone who believes it’s time for change. The Northern Territory is witnessing a shift in political dynamics, with the rise of the New Teal Independents, many of whom are former bureaucrats or affiliated with taxpayer-funded NGOs. These independents, who claim to represent the people without party loyalty, are deeply enmeshed in the bureaucratic systems they claim to reform. However, their backgrounds raise concerns about their true motivations, as they risk becoming an extension of the status quo. Centralization of power, often presented as a means of ensuring uniformity and fairness, can lead to the erosion of local autonomy and innovation. For example, the New Teal Independents' push for increased environmental regulations fails to consider the economic realities of the Northern Territory, which relies heavily on industries like mining, agriculture, and tourism. In contrast, local independents represent a more genuine form of political change, rooted in their communities and dedicated to addressing specific issues. They are not bound to the interests of bureaucrats or NGOs, and are focused on pragmatic solutions that work for the people they represent. The challenge for voters in the Northern Territory is to recognize the difference between those who merely claim to be independent and those who truly are, ensuring their government remains focused on the practical needs of the people, rather than on the abstract ideals of a centralised agenda. #NTElection2024 #politics #independents #Freedomvstyrrany #motivation #partyloyalty #ideology #NGO #bureaucrats
