This dispute between Shaadi.com and WestBridge has underscored major challenges in cross-border legal issues and the difficulties of enforcing shareholder agreements internationally. Although litigation has been ongoing since 2021, there has been no ruling on the matters of oppression and mismanagement. Drew & Napier litigators Siraj Omar, S.C., and Allister Tan have together launched a new set in Singapore, branded after the senior counsel’s namesake, Siraj Omar. The two new founders have taken with them a team of four other lawyers—one director, one associate director and two associates—from Drew & Napier, the Big Four Singapore firm best known for its prowess in dispute resolution. In a statement, they said the new practice will focus on providing tailored, strategic and results-driven solutions to clients navigating complex, high-stakes legal challenges. Omar was appointed Senior Counsel in 2019, a legal title in Singapore equivalent to that of a King’s Counsel in the U.K. He has almost three decades of disputes experience in commercial matters. Qualified in England and Wales, Malaysia and Singapore, Tan was a director, a partner equivalent title, at Drew & Napier, focused on commercial and insurance disputes.
