Fire compartmentation plays a vital role in building safety by preventing or inhibiting the spread of smoke, fire and toxic gases, protecting lives, and minimising damage. I have drafted an article on Fire Compartmentation setting out the legal requirements, the importance of Fire Compartmentation Surveys, and the end-to-end advice and support Sircle can provide. Please see the link in the article below for more details. #firesafety #firecompartmentation #surveying

The adequate inspection and maintenance of fire rated elements of construction is essential to ensuring a buildings performance in a fire. The impact of a fire can be greatly mitigated by having an adequate compartmentation strategy, which includes regular validation of a premises usage and the condition of these essential components that are in place to restrict fire and smoke spread such as fire doors and fire rated structures. Not only will this help preserve the building due to fire spreading from the compartment or area of onset of a fire, it will also control the spread of smoke from reaching other parts of a building which may be key to the safe evacuation of its occupants. Even minor upgrade works or refurbishment of premises can lead to serious implications for fire safety if compartmentation isn’t considered and reviewed as part of building projects.
