Labor Day—the day we celebrate by not laboring—has its roots in the labor movement of the late 19th century. Back then, workers were stuck in grueling conditions, often working 12-hour days, six days a week 😓. Naturally, they weren't thrilled about this. So, in true "enough is enough" fashion, they started organizing protests and strikes, demanding better hours, fair wages, and, you know, the radical idea of not being treated like robots 🤖. The first Labor Day parade was held on September 5, 1882, in New York City 🗽. Thousands of workers took to the streets, not to chase down a food truck 🚚, but to march for their rights ✊. The idea caught on, and by 1894, President Grover Cleveland made it a national holiday. Of course, this was after a few "oops" moments with strike-related violence that he wanted to smooth over 🫣. Today, Labor Day marks the unofficial end of summer—a last hurrah of BBQs 🍔, beach trips 🏖️, and, for some, awkwardly remembering they still own white pants 👖 they probably shouldn't wear after this weekend. But let's not forget its origins: a hard-won day off that gives us all a chance to kick back and enjoy the fruits of our (or someone else's) labor! 🎉 Honestly, I didn’t know the above earlier today—Chat GPT came in handy to teach me this part of history 🤓. As a High-Level Health Coach, I help active mid-lifer’s combat the aging process in an effective, efficient, and sustainable way so that they can continue to perform at a high level, today, tomorrow, and into the future.
𝐖𝐨𝐫𝐤 𝐯𝐬 𝐋𝐚𝐛𝐨𝐫 I always smile when Labor Day comes around and my client’s ask me if I’m working. My view has always been that the best way to celebrate and honor the true meaning of Labor Day is to “work,” and be grateful that I don’t have to labor like those who marched in the first Labor Day parade in 1882, in New York City. Work: An activity involving mental and/or physical effort done in order to achieve a purpose or result. Labor: An expenditure of physical and/or mental effort especially when difficult or compulsory. So, Yes! I’m going to work and also workout today, but I’m not going to labor. I approach my work the same way I approach my workouts, and my client’s programs: • With Intensity so that my client’s are stimulated and progress towards their goals… • Most Effective so that my client’s get stronger and stay strong into the future and beyond… • And Efficient (not laborious), because I would never want to waste their time or mine with run of the mill routines that wear them down… I‘m going to celebrate today, Knowing that I don’t have to LABOR… If I “work” at it every day, Today, and tomorrow. Have a Great Labor Day! Carlos 💪🏼💪🏼💪🏼 #APF #AgelessPerformers #AgelessPerformersForever #C3R #C3RPerformanceStrategies #CarlosAReyes #SecondHalf #50Plus #LaborDay
