“Before I learned about QuestBridge, I wasn’t entirely sure what college was the best fit for me. I was worried about being able to pay for my tuition and all the other expenses that come with attending university. QuestBridge opened my eyes when I received my first pamphlet. I learned about all the opportunities that the top universities offer without the worry of expenses. I read what made each university unique (academically and geographically). With QuestBridge, I discovered that attending a top university is possible for a high-achieving, first-generation, low-income student. … I would advise high-achieving students not to procrastinate but also to have fun when researching each university.” -Miguel A., Blue Island, IL University of Chicago ‘28 #matchmonday #dreambig #nationalcollegematch #collegebound #questbridge #college #topcollege #awards #scholarships #fullrides #topuniversities #highachieving #lowincome

First Gen Amplifier | Nonprofit Founder and Executive Director | Achiever, Woo, Belief, Communication, Positivity
On Thursday, an estimated 20,000 students will submit their QuestBridge application for the National College Match. Submitting your first college application is not an easy process. The hopes and dreams of a family, all your hard work for 12 years in school, sharing your life story…all submitted in one push of a button. We also understand applying to private schools is a huge undertaking that maybe you never saw yourself doing a year ago, or maybe a week ago. We just wanted to to let you know…we see you. Maybe you’re overwhelmed, maybe you’re overworked, maybe the teacher or counselor haven’t turned their recs in yet. As a First Gen, you’ve been through this before. The odds have never been in your favor. It’s like playing Uno, but everyone keeps using reverse and draw two cards on you… but yet here you are grinding. They don’t know what you have, they underestimated you before, and when they realized how good you have gotten at the game…they tried to change the rules to make you lose… And here you are, sitting at the table never meant for you, and yet in your hands is one single card…and it’s a Wild Card. Call it. Say “Uno” and we are so excited to see you play that last round. Up above you’ll see just some of our many Class of 2024 Scholars who played their card and were matched, and that could be you! In fact, last year 39% of the applicants were selected as finalists, and we LOVE those odds. It’s very apropos that uno=one Be the one. You are the one. #FirstGenScholars #FirstGenFullRides #FirstGenQuesties #PuttingUpOnes #QuestBridge #HeyUnoLetsCollab #TheFutureIsFirstGen

Scholarship of the Week! I posted this last week but it’s so good you need to be aware again of this. I’ve also posted on my page tips that Questbridge sends out for applications. The QuestBridge National College Match and Scholarship is our Scholarship of the Week! This one is an incredible opportunity for #firstgeneration students who generally come from households earning less than $65,000 a year with minimal assets (based on a family of 4). The scholarship winners receive early acceptance into one of 52 colleges with a four year full ride scholarship (covering tuition and fees, housing and food, books and supplies, and travel expenses) with no contributions from parents and no loans. Competitive candidates are in the top 10% of their high school class with grades mostly A's in the most challenging, rigorous courses available at their school. Last year, 2,242 students received a match. 🎓 Exciting News Alert! 🎓 This Friday marks a significant milestone in my journey - I will be walking the stage at my graduation ceremony, officially becoming a UH graduate! 🎉 My path to graduation hasn't been a straightforward one. After high school, I had various attempts at college: enrolling in classes here and there, unsure of what I wanted to do, only to find myself losing momentum and motivation. I had no motivation because I had nothing to be motivated about, what was I working towards? How could I take being a student seriously, how could I dedicate myself, if I wasn't even sure what career field I wanted to pursue? After a few sporadic semesters and a handful of failed classes, I accepted that college wasn't for me and left school. To be honest, despite my attempts at college, I never envisioned myself graduating. However, four years ago, I made the pivotal decision to return to school. The process was a challenge: I moved back home with my parents, cut back on hours at my job, and re-enrolled at my local community college. It had been about five years since I had been in any sort of school environment, I had to re-learn how to study, how to learn....I had to learn how to be a student. The process was a difficult learning curve, but I had now honed in on a career field that interested me, sparking the motivation I had lacked before. I completed a few semesters at community college, transferred to the University of Houston, and now here we are at the finish line! As I reflect on this journey, I'm filled with gratitude from the support of my family and friends. Each setback served as a lesson, each obstacle an opportunity for growth. I am so proud of myself for persevering....again, I never thought in a million years that I would have a degree. To be honest, even though my graduation ceremony is so close, I sometimes think that there must be a mistake, that this can't be real. Thank you to everyone who has provided me with encouragement and guidance. I keep describing graduating as "crossing a finish line", but in reality it is just the beginning of a whole new journey. Join me in celebrating this achievement and the countless possibilities that lie ahead! Go Coogs! 🐾 #graduation #Classof2024 #GoCoogs #UniversityofHouston
